JCB LiveLink is JCB’s machine telematics system: a GPS and mobile-network unit on the machine sends its location, working hours, fuel data and warning alerts to an app and a website the owner logs into. Every major excavator maker in India runs the same kind of system under its own name, such as Volvo CareTrack, Komatsu KOMTRAX, Tata Hitachi ConSite, Hyundai Hi-MATE, SANY EVI, CASE SiteWatch and Cat VisionLink.
Most searches for “LiveLink” are owners trying to log in. This page does something different: it explains what these systems record, how each brand’s version works in plain terms, and what the data means when you pay an EMI, claim insurance or sell the machine.
What does machine telematics record?
A telematics unit is a small box wired into the machine’s electrics, with a GPS receiver and a SIM card. It reads signals the engine and controller already produce and sends them to the maker’s server. The details vary by brand and model, but the core set is the same:
- Hour meter reading (called SMR, service meter reading, on some systems) and engine-on hours by day.
- Location on a map, updated at set intervals.
- Fuel level and fuel used, and on many machines the time spent idling.
- Geofence alerts, when the machine leaves an area you have drawn on the map.
- Time-fence or curfew alerts, when the machine is started outside the working hours you set.
- Service due reminders, counted from the hour meter.
- Warning and fault alerts, such as high coolant temperature or a sensor fault.
The owner sees this in a mobile app and on a web portal. The dealer’s service team can often see the same machine, which is how some makers send a service reminder before the owner notices.
What is each brand’s telematics system called?
The table sums up what each maker says its own system does. It is based on the makers’ Indian websites and statements to the trade press, checked on 29 September 2026.
| Brand | System name | What the maker says it shows |
|---|---|---|
| JCB | LiveLink | Live location, geofences, working-hours alerts, fuel reports, service-due and critical machine alerts, through the LiveLink app |
| Volvo CE | CareTrack | Location, fuel level and use, idle time, machine hours, geofence and time-fence alerts, service planning |
| Komatsu (L&T Komatsu machines in India) | KOMTRAX | Location, service meter hours, working status, fuel level and consumption, water temperature, machine health |
| Tata Hitachi | ConSite (and InSite) | Monthly operation report with advice by email, caution and emergency alarms, performance compared with similar machines |
| Hyundai | Hi-MATE | Machine location by GPS, remote check of performance and diagnostic information |
| SANY | EVI; SANY Evision platform | Fleet location and activity, performance, maintenance needs, geofence and overtime alarms, operating reports |
| CASE | SiteWatch | Fuel use, location, operating hours, alerts for high temperature or fuel tampering |
| Caterpillar | Product Link hardware with VisionLink software | Location, hours, fuel burn, idle time, events and fault codes |
How does each system work in practice?
JCB LiveLink
JCB says LiveLink is fitted as standard on most of its machines, and 22 of the 24 JCB excavators we checked name it. Owners in India use the JCB LiveLink mobile app for India, where they can see the machine on a map, set a geofence around the site and set working hours so that any start outside them sends an alert. It also sends a notice when a service is due and a critical alert for serious mechanical or electrical faults.
Volvo CareTrack
Volvo launched CareTrack in India as the first market in Asia for the system. Volvo says it shows machine location, fuel levels and total machine hours, with geofences, time-fences and utilisation reports for fleets.
Komatsu KOMTRAX
KOMTRAX is Komatsu’s own remote monitoring system, listed on the L&T Komatsu excavators sold in India. One screen shows each machine’s location, hour meter, working status, fuel level and water temperature. Komatsu India points out that a sudden fall in the fuel level on the KOMTRAX record can show diesel theft.
Tata Hitachi ConSite
Tata Hitachi’s own website names the service ConSite. It works mainly through reports: a monthly operation report with advice, sent by email, and alarm or emergency notices sent to both the owner and the dealer. Tata Hitachi also runs a second system, InSite, and its managing director told NBMCW in December 2024 that telematics comes as standard on its machines.
Hyundai, SANY, CASE and Caterpillar
Hyundai lists Hi-MATE on its Indian excavator pages as a GPS-based remote management system for checking performance, diagnostics and location. SANY India describes its intelligent service platform, Evision, with a mobile app and web portal, geofence and overtime alarms; its excavator spec sheets name the on-machine system EVI. CASE offers SiteWatch, and its Indian EX series backhoe loaders come with telematics. Caterpillar’s VisionLink is the software that reads the data a Cat Product Link unit collects.
Which excavators in India come with telematics?
We read the listed specifications and feature notes of the 294 excavator models in the DesiMachines catalogue on 29 September 2026. The count below is what the listings name, not a full record of what is fitted, so confirm with the dealer.
| Brand | Models checked | Models that name telematics | System named |
|---|---|---|---|
| JCB | 24 | 22 | LiveLink (21) |
| SANY | 41 | 17 | EVI (15) |
| Tata Hitachi | 35 | 15 | ConSite (5), others generic |
| L&T Komatsu | 22 | 13 | KOMTRAX (13) |
| Volvo | 17 | 6 | CareTrack (5) |
| Hyundai | 22 | 4 | Hi-MATE (3) |
| Caterpillar | 13 | 3 | VisionLink (3) |
| CASE | 2 | 2 | “telematics ready” |
Brands such as LiuGong, XCMG, Kobelco and BEML did not name a system in the listings we read. That does not mean their machines lack one. Browse excavator models and prices and ask the dealer what is fitted and for how long the subscription is included.
What does telematics mean for EMI, insurance and resale?
Insurance
A machine that can be tracked is easier to recover after theft, which is why insurers ask about security fittings. If your machine has a working telematics unit, tell the insurer when you buy or renew the policy. The guide to what decides your machine’s insurance premium covers how security fittings count. Keep the subscription active: a unit that has stopped reporting does not help you after a theft.
EMI and running cost
Telematics does not change the loan itself, but it helps you pay it. The machine only earns when it works, and the hours record shows how many hours each machine really worked last month, which is the number the EMI has to come out of. Idle-time and fuel records also show where diesel is going; the guide to stopping diesel theft explains how owners use them. For working out whether a machine earns enough, see the machine utilisation rate guide.
Resale
A buyer of a second-hand excavator worries most about the hour meter reading and the service history. A telematics log of hours and a dealer record of services done on time give the buyer something to check. Keep the account details and hand the machine’s access over properly when you sell.
How do you start using the telematics on a new machine?
- At delivery, ask the dealer to register your mobile number and email on the machine’s account and to show you the app working.
- Ask how many years the subscription is included and what renewal costs. We did not find published renewal prices for India.
- Set a geofence around your site or yard and set your normal working hours, so starts at night send an alert.
- Turn on service reminders, and check the hour meter in the app matches the one in the cab.
