What decides the price of a backhoe loader tyre

Size and ply rating. A 16.9 x 28 rear tyre is a much bigger tyre than a 9 x 16 front, and the price follows. A higher ply rating, such as 16 PR against 12 PR, means a stronger casing and a higher price for the same size.

Tread. Industrial tread is the general-purpose pattern most backhoe loaders leave the factory on. Heavy-duty and rock treads carry more rubber.

Maker and district. Prices differ between makers and between districts, and move with rubber prices. That is why we do not print one: a quote from a dealer near you, for your exact size, is the only figure worth comparing.

What the quote includes. Tube, flap, fitting and delivery to your site may or may not be in the price. Ask, so that two quotes compare like with like.

Before you ask for a quote

1. Read the size on the sidewall of the tyre you are replacing, or find your model in the table above.
2. Check whether your machine is 2WD or 4WD. On many models the front tyre is different.
3. Count how many you need, front and rear. Rear tyres are usually changed as a pair.
4. Decide whether you want tube, flap and fitting included.

When a tyre needs replacing

Replace a tyre when a cut shows the cords inside, when the sidewall bulges, or when the tread is so low that the machine slips on wet ground.
