Escorts Kubota UP plant breaks ground at YEIDA Sector-10

Escorts Kubota broke ground on its greenfield plant in Uttar Pradesh today, and for anyone pricing a backhoe loader or an excavator the interesting part is not the ceremony. It is a question the company has not answered: does this site take any load off the construction equipment lines, or is it a tractor plant with the rest to follow?

The quick facts

  • Escorts Kubota broke ground on its greenfield manufacturing plant on 19 August 2026, moved forward by a day from the 20th.
  • The site is 200 acres in Sector-10 of the YEIDA industrial area, Gautam Buddha Nagar, near the Noida International Airport.
  • Company-stated FY27 capex is Rs 850-900 crore, of which Rs 450-500 crore goes to the greenfield project and the rest to existing operations.
  • The Escorts Kubota construction equipment business sold 1,344 machines in Q1 FY27, up 27.4% year on year.

What Escorts Kubota confirmed

The date was moved forward to 19 August and the ceremony was held in New Delhi, alongside the state’s Japan investment meet. Autocar Professional, reporting the company’s June-quarter earnings call earlier this month, put the FY27 capital budget at Rs 850-900 crore and the greenfield share of it at Rs 450-500 crore, with land already allotted and paid for. Moneycontrol and Financial Express carried the ceremony itself.

One number deserves care. Carriers covering today’s event put the first phase at roughly Rs 2,000 crore, while the 200-acre YEIDA allotment made in 2024 was tied to a phased commitment of Rs 4,500 crore and about 4,000 jobs. Those are not the same figure and the company has not publicly reconciled them, so treat the Rs 2,000 crore as what is being spent now and the Rs 4,500 crore as the long-run intent. Both are company-stated.

What does this mean for equipment buyers?

Escorts Kubota builds its backhoe loaders and compact excavators at Faridabad. Nothing published today says that work moves. What today does tell you is that the group is committing serious money to capacity in Uttar Pradesh at exactly the moment its machine volumes are growing faster than its tractor volumes in percentage terms – 27.4% against 22.9% in the June quarter.

That matters because capacity decisions run three to four years ahead of the order book. A plant that breaks ground now starts producing around the time a machine you buy in 2027 comes off warranty. If the construction equipment lines do eventually get space here, the practical effect on a buyer is duller and better than it sounds: shorter waits on popular variants, and a second source of parts and service engineering in the north instead of one.

Our take: read this as a supply signal, not a price signal. New capacity does not cut what a machine costs – land, steel and a Japanese parent’s quality spend all sit in the number. What it does change, slowly, is availability. Buyers who have waited on a variant should ask their dealer where the machine is actually built and what the current lead time is, because that answer will not move for at least two more years whatever gets announced at a ceremony.

The nearer-term read is on the site itself. Two hundred acres of greenfield industrial land near the Yamuna Expressway means clearing, filling to level, internal roads and heavy floor slabs before a single machine is assembled. That is soil compactor and motor grader work with tippers on short hauls, and it is the kind of package regional contractors around Greater Noida bid for rather than national EPC majors.

Update, 21 August 2026: Autocar Professional reported on 19 August that the YEIDA campus carries a company-stated investment of more than Rs 2,000 crore and that Phase 1 is sized for up to 60,000 tractors and 15,000 construction equipment units a year, with tractors, farm implements, construction equipment and engines all built on site. That settles the open question below: construction equipment is in the plan for this plant, not just at Faridabad. A 15,000-unit annual CE line is a real addition to domestic supply, and it is the number to hold the company to as later phases are announced. Carriers differ on the site area, so we are not restating it here.

What to watch

  • Whether Escorts Kubota names a construction equipment line for the YEIDA site, or keeps it to tractors and engines.
  • The FY28 capex guidance – if the greenfield share rises sharply, construction is being pulled forward.
  • Civil and structural tenders for the site, which are the first real equipment demand this project creates.
