Uttar Pradesh’s Mandi Parishad has released about Rs 477 crore to repair and strengthen 1,111 link roads, roughly 1,714 km, across 18 divisions. Divide it out and the average road is about 1.5 km long with about Rs 43 lakh behind it. That is patching and overlay work for small contractors who hire their rollers, not a programme anyone buys a paver for.
The quick facts
- The UP State Agricultural Produce Market Council (Mandi Parishad) released about Rs 477 crore, reported on 14 October 2026.
- 1,111 link roads, about 1,714 km, in 18 divisions; the stated aim is pothole-free, strengthened roads to mandis.
- Biggest shares: Bareilly Rs 74.86 crore (156 roads, 225.15 km), Lucknow Rs 72.60 crore (129 roads, 215.40 km), Kanpur Rs 50.66 crore (158 roads, 235.39 km).
- District magistrates will review progress; no completion deadline or tender schedule has been published.
What did the Mandi Parishad release?
Gaon Junction’s Lucknow desk, Ujjwal Pradesh and City 24×7 all carry the same division-wise table from the council. Besides the top three, Jhansi gets Rs 44.11 crore for 77 roads, Agra Rs 35.89 crore for 100 and Prayagraj Rs 34.73 crore for 83. Ayodhya, Aligarh and Mirzapur are named without figures. Mandi Parishad director Jitendra Pratap Singh said the work would meet technical standards and deadlines without any compromise on quality.
What it means for buyers
Run the numbers and the job sorts itself. The whole programme works out to about Rs 28 lakh a kilometre. Rajasthan’s missing-link road sanction came in near Rs 33 lakh a km, and Chennai’s city relaying near Rs 94 lakh. UP is the cheapest of the three. At that rate there is no earthwork and no structures. The money goes on cutting out failed patches, a tack coat and a thin bituminous layer.
The six divisions with published figures add up to 703 roads and Rs 312.85 crore. That leaves about 408 roads and roughly Rs 164 crore spread over the other 12. Of the three divisions with lengths published, Kanpur is the thinnest at about Rs 21.5 lakh a km. Bareilly and Lucknow sit near Rs 33 lakh.
The machine list is short: tandem rollers for the overlay, a bitumen sprayer, tippers running hot mix from district plants, and a JCB 3DX-class backhoe loader for shoulders and edge cutting. A mechanical paver earns its keep only on the longer stretches. Packages of Rs 30 to 45 lakh go to local contractors who own a tipper or two and hire the roller by the day.
Our take: with 18 divisions working at once through the dry months, expect small tandem rollers and sprayers to be busy across central and western Uttar Pradesh. For an owner, that points to better utilisation and firmer day rates. It doesn’t make a case for buying new kit. More of the general picture sits in our road construction equipment guide.
What to watch
- District-level tenders from Mandi Parishad construction divisions: package size will show whether roads are bundled or let one by one.
- A completion deadline, which would compress the work into fewer months.
- Figures for the 12 divisions not yet itemised.
