NCC Ltd has won a Rs 1,286.03 crore road package from Hyderabad Growth Corridor Ltd (HGCL), and the number that matters to equipment owners is not the value. It is the clock. The contract gives NCC 18 months to build Package-1 of Radial Road-2, from Budwel to Shabad, on Hyderabad’s southwest edge. That is a fast build, and fast builds pull a lot of iron into one place at once.
The quick facts
- NCC received a Letter of Acceptance worth Rs 1,286.03 crore, excluding GST, disclosed in an exchange filing on 8 October 2026.
- The client is Hyderabad Growth Corridor Ltd. The work is Radial Road-2, from the Outer Ring Road near Budwel towards Nacharam on NH-167N.
- This award covers Package-1 only, Budwel to Shabad, with an 18-month construction period.
- Length, lane count and contract mode were not given in the reports we read.
What did NCC win?
NCC told the exchanges on 8 October that it had received the LoA from HGCL for the first package of Radial Road-2. Upstox and EquityPandit both reported the same value, client, package and 18-month period, and CNBC TV18 carried the award the same evening. It is a road job for a contractor whose July order intake, as we reported at the time, had no roads in it at all.
What does an 18-month road package mean for machine demand?
Spread Rs 1,286 crore over 18 months and it comes to roughly Rs 71 crore of work a month, before GST. A single package cannot spend at that rate from one work front. Expect NCC to open several at once, each with its own earthwork set: excavators in the 20 to 30 tonne class, tippers on short cycles, motor graders for the layers and vibratory soil compactors behind them. Once the formation is up, the paving train and the concrete kit for culverts and structures follow.
The calendar is tight too. Telangana’s monsoon usually runs from June to September. If work starts soon after the LoA, the first dry season, November 2026 to May 2027, has to carry most of the earthwork. Paving and finishing would then fall in the second dry season, before the 18 months run out. A slow start squeezes everything into one window.
We have not worked out a cost per km. No carrier gave the package length, and guessing it would make any rate meaningless.
Our take: large EPC contractors usually field the core machines from their own yards, and NCC probably will too. The pull for everyone else is likely to be on hire: earthwork subcontractors, tipper owners and roller operators around Rangareddy district could find the local market tighter through the coming dry season. Package-1 also implies more packages on the same road, and each one is another fleet looking for the same operators. Our road construction equipment guide covers how these fleets are usually sized.
What to watch
- HGCL awards for the next Radial Road-2 packages towards Nacharam, and who wins them.
- The appointed date, which starts the 18-month clock.
- Earthwork and haulage subcontracts NCC lets on the Budwel to Shabad stretch.
