Sikkim’s lifeline to the plains, NH-10 between Rangpo and Ranipool, is to be rebuilt as a two-lane highway with tunnels and viaducts for ₹706.63 crore, and the Rangpo Ranipool NH-10 tender from NHIDCL closes at 3:00 PM on 1 December 2026.
26 km that keep failing
The scope is widening and development of the existing carriageway into two lanes with paved shoulders from km 53.50 at Rangpo to km 79.371 at Ranipool, with construction of tunnels and viaducts and treatment of vulnerable sliding and sinking zones. Rangpo is the border town with West Bengal and Ranipool is on the edge of Gangtok.
At about ₹27 crore per kilometre, most of the money is in structures and slope work, not pavement. It is an EPC contract from NHIDCL’s headquarters, reference NHIDCL/SKM/NH10/Rangpo Ranipool/2026.
A long contract period
The portal shows 4,745 days as the period of work. That is about 13 years, so it clearly includes a long maintenance obligation after construction. The RFP gives the split. EMD is ₹7,07,00,000, with exemption shown as allowed for eligible bidders, and the fee is ₹94,400. A pre-bid meeting is set for 3:00 PM on 27 October at NHIDCL headquarters. Bids open at 4:00 PM on 2 December 2026.
This is two jobs in one. The tunnels need drill jumbos, shotcrete machines, low-profile loaders and dump trucks. The road and viaducts need excavators with breakers, cranes for girder launching, piling rigs, and a steady run of transit mixers. Slide zones call for drilling rigs for anchors and drainage. Wheel loaders and motor graders keep the existing road open through every monsoon. Equipment owners in Siliguri are the nearest large hire market.
