Chhattisgarh PWD Bridge Tenders: Rs 243.81 Crore for 12 Bridges and 6 Roads

Chhattisgarh PWD bridge tenders worth Rs 243.81 crore have been cleared: the public works department’s tender committee approved bids on 18 jobs at its 12 October meeting, and 12 of them are bridges or an overpass. Two weeks after a road-heavy Rs 672 crore batch, this one moves the money into concrete. For machine owners, that means cranes, batching and foundation digging in south Chhattisgarh’s river country, not another paving season.

The quick facts

  • Batch: tenders approved for 18 works totalling Rs 243.81 crore (Rs 243 crore 81 lakh 11 thousand), at the PWD tender committee meeting of 12 October 2026.
  • Bridges: 11 high-level river and nala bridges worth Rs 115.69 crore, plus a Rs 29.80 crore overpass at Fundhar Chowk on Raipur’s VIP Road.
  • Roads: five rural roads covering 62.45 km for Rs 83.35 crore, and a 3.66 km service road on Ring Road No. 1 (NH-30) in Raipur for Rs 14.97 crore.
  • Biggest job: a high-level bridge over the Indravati in Bijapur, Rs 36.06 crore. No contractors are named.

What the state approved

Lalluram and Editorjee both carried the government’s itemised list on 16 October. We added up the 18 line items and they come to exactly Rs 243.81 crore, so the list is complete. Eight of the 11 river bridges are in the Bastar division (Bijapur, Bastar, Dantewada, Kondagaon and Kanker), worth Rs 93.19 crore between them. The rest sit in Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai and Surguja. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and PWD minister Arun Sao framed the batch around connectivity and on-time quality, but the release gives no start or completion dates.

Which machines will these jobs need?

About six rupees in ten go to structures, which flips the fleet from the 2 October batch. A high-level river bridge is a foundation and concrete job: excavators for foundation pits and cofferdams, a batching plant with transit mixers and a pump, and a crane for girders and shuttering. Approaches add a small earthwork tail with backhoe loaders and compactors. The release does not say whether any bridge needs piles or wells, and that one detail decides whether piling rigs come in.

The timing matters more than the money. River foundations go in during lean flow, roughly November to May here. A bridge that misses its substructure before the June rains can lose a season, so expect contractors to mobilise quickly once work orders issue.

The road side is light work. The Surajpur ring road works out to about Rs 95 lakh per km, which is resurfacing territory. The 17.40 km Devri-Tanod-Bhuigaon road in Janjgir-Champa runs about Rs 1.79 crore per km. Both are jobs for a grader, rollers and a paver, as listed on our road construction equipment page.

Our take: the average bridge here costs about Rs 10.5 crore, and 10 of the 11 are under Rs 13 crore. Jobs that size go to regional contractors who hire cranes and pumps rather than buy them. In remote Bastar, though, hired machines tend to mobilise once and stay the season, so crane and concrete-pump owners in Jagdalpur and Raipur may see longer, steadier bookings from December. That is our reading, not a certainty.

What to watch

  • Work orders and the winning contractors, which the state has not published.
  • Foundation type on the Indravati bridge. Piles or wells would bring in rigs and heavier cranes.
  • Whether the 2 October and 12 October batches (Rs 916 crore across 42 works) start in the same window and compete for operators.
