Cranes Set for Vadhvan: Afcons Wins Rs 5,301 Cr Job

Afcons Infrastructure received the letter of award on June 9, 2026 from Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL) for a 10.14 km breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra, valued at Rs 53.01 billion (about Rs 5,301 crore). On completion it will be the world’s second longest breakwater, shielding what is planned as India’s largest public port with a 23.2 million TEU handling capacity.

Breakwater construction is among the most equipment-intensive jobs in marine infrastructure: armour rock and concrete blocks must be quarried, hauled and placed continuously, keeping crawler cranes, large excavators, dumpers and barges engaged for years. Afcons, ranked the 8th largest marine and port facilities contractor globally by ENR, has delivered comparable works at Port of Sohar in Oman and the New Owendo International Port in Gabon.

What it means for buyers: Contractors and rental firms along the MaharashtraGujarat coast should expect sustained hiring demand for high-tonnage crawler cranes, rock-body tippers and quarry machinery as Vadhvan packages mobilise — a multi-year revenue window for equipment owners who position early.
