Brahmaputra Infrastructure has a letter of acceptance for a Rs 89.73 crore bridge over the River Ravi in Punjab, won through a joint venture with Ganesh Kartikey Pvt Ltd. The bridge is 1,606 metres long, with 4,144 metres of approach road, and the contract allows 24 months. For crane, concrete and earthmoving owners in Gurdaspur and Pathankot, that is a two-season river job about to open.
The quick facts
- Value: Rs 89.73 crore, letter of acceptance under Memo No. 1417/CRIF dated 8 October 2026.
- Client: Chief Engineer, Central, Punjab PWD (B&R), Patiala. Funded under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund.
- Scope: a high-level major bridge at Makoura Pattan, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts, 44 spans of 36.50 m, plus 4,144 m of approaches.
- Completion period: 24 months. Lane count and foundation type were not given in the reports we read.
What did Brahmaputra Infrastructure win?
The JV was named lowest bidder for this bridge in September. The letter of acceptance is the step that turns that bid into a contract, and Dalal Street Investment Journal reported it on 9 October with the memo number, span arrangement and completion period. Construction Mirror carried the same award, client, lengths and 24-month term. The value equals about 24.3 per cent of the company’s FY26 net sales of Rs 369.39 crore, so this is a large job for a contractor of its size.
What does a 44-span river bridge pull in machines?
Start with the rate. Rs 89.73 crore over 1,606 m of bridge works out to about Rs 5.6 lakh a running metre, and that figure still includes the 4.1 km of approach road. Our two most recent bridge anchors sit far higher: GPT Infraprojects’ Mahanadi rail bridge at roughly Rs 23 lakh a metre, and the six-lane Teesta crossing at Sevoke near Rs 170 crore a km with approaches. That gap points to a lighter, state-funded design, with most of the spend likely to go into repeat substructure and deck work.
That repetition matters. Forty-four identical 36.5 m spans usually means girders cast in a casting yard on the bank and lifted onto the piers one after another. That pulls crawler cranes or a launching setup for the girders, a site batching plant, and a fleet of transit mixers feeding pier and deck pours for most of the two years. River piers also need foundation rigs, but no report states whether this crossing uses piles or wells, so we have not guessed.
The 4,144 m of approaches is the earthwork half. A high-level bridge sits well above the floodplain, so the approaches are built-up embankment: excavators at borrow pits, tippers on short cycles, a grader, and vibratory soil compactors working layer by layer. Our road construction equipment guide covers how that fleet is usually sized.
Our take: the calendar will set the hiring pattern. Riverbed work usually runs between October and June, before the monsoon raises the Ravi. A 24-month term gives the JV about two such dry seasons, and a slow start would push the foundations and piers into one. A mid-sized contractor on a Rs 90 crore job is more likely to hire cranes and concrete plant locally than buy them. That makes this a hire opportunity for owners in northern Punjab.
What to watch
- The signed agreement and start date, which fix when the 24 months begin.
- Whether the foundations are piles or wells, which decides the rig type.
- Subcontracts for the approach embankment and girder casting.
