KNR Constructions has a letter of acceptance from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for an elevated corridor from the ICCC in Banjara Hills to the Shilpa Layout flyover road, worth Rs 1,396.54 crore before GST. For piling, crane and concrete contractors in Hyderabad, it is two years of pier and deck work in one of the city’s tightest road corridors.
The work at a glance
- Contractor and client: KNR Constructions Ltd, Hyderabad; Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.
- Value: Rs 1,396.54 crore excluding GST, as stated in the company’s Regulation 30 filing of 5 November 2026.
- Route: ICCC Banjara Hills to the Shilpa Layout flyover road, the corridor HMDA described in January as about 9 km in two phases.
- Term: 24 months from acceptance. The filing does not give the length, lane count or deck method.
What KNR disclosed
KNR told both exchanges on 5 November that it had received the letter of acceptance, the formal award stage, with a 24-month construction period. InvestyWise and Kalkine both carried the filing’s value, route and term.
The corridor itself is not new. In January, The South First and Civic Mail both reported that HMDA had cleared a 9 km elevated road at an estimated Rs 1,656 crore: phase I about 5 km from Film Nagar to Shilpa Layout, phase II about 4 km from the ICCC tower to Hakimpet Kunta, a mix of four-lane and six-lane sections, and six entry and exit points including Film Nagar Road No. 82, Narne Road, Road No. 52, ITC Kohenur Road and T-Hub Junction. HMDA said it would pay for it from its infrastructure bond programme. The January estimate and the award value may not be on the same tax basis, so we have not worked out a discount.
Which machines this work needs
An urban elevated corridor puts its money into structures, not earthwork. On the 9 km length HMDA described, the award works out to about Rs 155 crore a km before GST. Dilip Buildcon took the four-lane Solapur elevated corridor on NH-65 at about Rs 71 crore a km on the same ex-GST basis. The gap fits six-lane sections, six sets of ramps, and piers that December and September coverage said were planned with room for a future Metro line.
That points to three machine groups. First, foundations: hydraulic piling rigs boring piles for every pier, and the Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills area sits on the city’s granite outcrops, so rigs may meet rock at shallow depth and need rock tools. Second, concrete: batching plants set up close to the route, transit mixers and concrete pumps for pile caps, piers and pier heads. Third, lifting: crawler and mobile cranes for reinforcement cages and, if the deck is precast, girder or segment erection. KNR has not said whether it will use precast segments with a launching gantry or cast in place, and that choice sets most of the crane hire bill.
Street width will cap machine size along Road No. 12 and Road No. 45, so expect compact excavators and backhoe loaders for utility shifting and pile-cap digging, not 20-tonne crawlers. For sub-contractors, the hire case is strongest on heavy cranes and piling rigs, which move between pier locations. Batching and pumping plant could justify owning if a crew stays on the job for all 24 months, through the 2027 and 2028 monsoons.
What follows next
- The agreement signing and appointed date, which start the 24-month clock.
- KNR’s choice of deck method, which decides whether launching gantries or cast-in-place staging come to Hyderabad.
- Sub-contracts for piling, utility diversion and ramp works.
