The Border Roads Organisation wants 18.25 km of the Sumla Thangla I road surfaced in a single season, and the ₹34.08 crore Sumla Thangla road tender closes at 6:00 PM on 4 December 2026.
A pure surfacing contract
This is an execution contract for providing and laying two layers of 75 mm wet mix macadam, 75 mm dense bituminous macadam and 40 mm bituminous concrete, with prime coat, tack coat and road marking, from km 0 to km 18.250 on the Sumla Thangla I road. The work falls under 72 RCC of 36 BRTF in the Project Shivalik area, and the Headquarters Chief Engineer Project Shivalik at Rishikesh is the inviting office, reference NIT-20-2026-27.
There is no formation work in the scope. The alignment is already cut, and what is being bought is the pavement: granular layers, two bituminous courses and marking. That makes it an unusually clean package to price, because the quantities are a straight function of length and width.
No tender fee, a nominal deposit, and one season
The published value is ₹34,08,36,000 on an item rate contract with 365 days. EMD is ₹15,00,000 with no exemption, and the tender fee is nil. Bids open at 11:00 AM on 9 December. A single year for 18.25 km of surfacing is comfortable on the plains and tight in the hills, because the bituminous window closes once temperatures drop.
Surfacing work lives or dies on the hot mix supply. You need a mix plant within a sensible haul of the stretch, a wheel loader keeping its bins fed, and a paver with tandem and pneumatic tyred rollers behind it. The wet mix layers come first, so a motor grader is needed to get the profile right before any bitumen goes down. Keep a backhoe loader and a small excavator for side drains, edge preparation and the inevitable slip clearance. Our road construction equipment guide covers how to size a paving train.
