The Union Cabinet has approved Phase 2A of the Ahmedabad Metro: a 6.032 km corridor connecting the network to the city’s airport, at a sanctioned cost of Rs 2,169 crore. The approval extends Gujarat’s metro build-out at a time when Surat Metro is wrapping up Phase 1 tunnelling and GMRC is studying integration with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.
Elevated metro corridors are concrete-hungry: piers, pier caps and precast segments consume thousands of cubic metres, keeping batching plants, concrete pumps and transit mixers running through the civil phase. Casting yards for U-girders and segments typically come up within months of contract award, followed by launching gantries along the alignment. Civil tenders for the corridor are expected to follow the sanction.
What it means for buyers: Ahmedabad-region contractors and concrete equipment owners get a fresh, funded pipeline: track GMRC’s Phase 2A civil packages, and expect spot demand for boom pumps, batching plants and mixers once casting yards are mobilised.
