JSW Infrastructure has won a 30-year public-private partnership concession to develop and operate a 0.93 million TEU container terminal at Netaji Subhas Dock, Kolkata Port, according to New Projects Tracker. The award hands a private operator one of eastern India’s most strategic box-handling assets for three decades.
Terminal concessions of this type front-load civil and equipment spending: berth strengthening, yard paving, drainage and gate complexes in the first phase, followed by quay cranes, rubber-tyred gantries and reach stackers. For the regional infrastructure contracting market, that means packages in marine civil works, heavy paving and electrical infrastructure are likely to flow over the next 18–24 months.
The award also lands alongside the Centre’s stated plan to develop West Bengal as eastern India’s maritime hub, with an investment pipeline of around Rs 19,209 crore flagged by the ports ministry earlier this month. Together, the two signal a sustained construction cycle around Kolkata’s dock system rather than a one-off upgrade.
What it means for buyers: Civil contractors and material-handling equipment suppliers in West Bengal should track SW Infrastructure’s early works tenders — terminal build-outs reward those who pre-qualify early.
