The build
The Chief Engineer, Upper Mahanadi Basin at Burla has floated an EPC turnkey contract to build an in-stream storage structure (ISS) at Degaon across the river Mahanadi in Sambalpur district. The scope runs beyond the barrage itself: it bundles the power-connectivity system and five years of operation and maintenance. At ₹639.98 Cr, it’s a serious river-works package for a contractor who can handle in-river construction and the coffer-dam sequencing that comes with it.
Machines that move the river
In-stream work is unforgiving. Expect long-reach excavators and dredging kit to shape the bed, dewatering pumps working around the clock, and a heavy concrete train — batching plants, transit mixers and pumps — for the barrage body and piers. Cranes set gates and hydro-mechanical parts. Owners in the Sambalpur–Burla belt who run river-grade machines will find real hire demand here across a multi-season programme.

This is one for established EPC firms with barrage or bridge-in-river experience and the balance sheet to carry a ₹6.40 Cr EMD. The five-year O&M tail also rewards outfits that can staff and run a scheme, not just pour concrete and leave.
