Orai Barah Tender: NH-27 Six-Laning, Uttar Pradesh (Rs 2,440.55 Cr)

NHAI has put the Orai to Barah stretch of NH-27 in Uttar Pradesh out to bid as a ₹2,440.55 crore six-laning job on hybrid annuity, and bids close on 3 November 2026.

The stretch and the work

The package covers 62.670 km of NH-27 from km 1515.713 to km 1578.383, where the existing four-lane highway is to be rehabilitated and widened into a six-lane divided carriageway. It runs on the hybrid annuity model, so the government pays part of the cost during construction and the rest as annuities once the road is open, which changes how a bidder has to think about cash flow compared with a plain EPC job.

This sits on the same Jhansi to Kanpur side of the east-west corridor that NHAI has been tendering in pieces. The three packages further west are already on our site as the Jhansi Orai six-laning tender, closing on 21 October, so a contractor pricing one of them will want to read the other.

Is it one for you?

At this size the main bid is for large highway EPC firms with HAM experience and the balance sheet to carry the equity portion. Earnest money is ₹24,41,00,000, which is one per cent of the estimate and confirms the value, and the tender fee is ₹2,50,000. The listed form of contract is item rate across two covers, with 120-day bid validity.

The bigger opening for most of our readers is the work underneath the main contract. A 62 km widening while traffic keeps moving is broken into reaches, and the winner will hire earthwork, drainage, structures and paving crews along the reach. Machines a widening like this keeps busy

Widening a live four-lane into six means cutting and filling along both edges, so excavators and backhoe loaders work the shoulders and side drains while tippers move borrow earth. Motor graders and soil and tandem rollers build up each layer, and wheel loaders feed the hot-mix and wet-mix plants. Minor bridges and culverts along the reach will need cranes and transit mixers.
