Tiruvannamalai Four-Lane Bypass Tender, NH-38, Tamil Nadu

MoRTH has floated a ₹623.28 crore EPC tender for a 22.710 km four-lane access-controlled bypass around Tiruvannamalai town on the new NH-38 alignment in Tamil Nadu, with bids closing on 15 September 2026.

The alignment and the build

The bypass starts at design km 75.150 and ends at design km 88.030 of the new NH-38, with a design length of 22.710 km. Access-controlled means no ad-hoc junctions along the reach, so the package carries grade separators, service road provisions, culverts and bridge structures rather than a simple widening. Tiruvannamalai draws heavy pilgrim traffic through the town centre, and a greenfield ring like this is meant to pull long-distance traffic out of it. The contract is EPC, in two covers, with 120 days of bid validity.

A greenfield four-lane reach of this length is a main-contractor job for firms with NH experience in the south. Earnest money is ₹6,23,28,000, right at 1 per cent of the estimate, and the tender fee is ₹82,600. Greenfield alignment work starts with clearing and bulk earthwork, so tracked excavators, dozers and a tipper fleet do the early running. Motor graders and vibratory rollers take over on the subgrade and granular layers, followed by pavers and tandem rollers for the bituminous work. Structures along the reach bring in batching plants, transit mixers, concrete pumps and cranes for girder handling. Because 22.710 km is a long front to hold, contractors usually split the reach and run two or three parallel spreads, which doubles the plant requirement compared with a single-face job.
