The work covers two ROBs, numbered 129A and 134A, on the bypassed section of Thiruvarur town in the Nagapattinam to Thanjavur section of NH-83. “Bypassed section” means the old highway alignment through the town, which the bypass replaces for through traffic. ROB spans over the railway are placed in short traffic blocks, so the crane has to be sized for a quick, single lift. Pile foundations need a rotary rig. Approach ramps are built with excavators, tippers and compactors, and transit mixers carry concrete from a plant outside the town. A backhoe loader handles service roads and drains below the ramps.
