About 670 metres of the Jammu to Srinagar highway near Tharad has to be rebuilt after it was damaged in what NHAI calls a recent catastrophic event, and the ₹30.61 crore Tharad NH-44 tender closes at 4:00 PM on 28 October 2026.
Both carriageways, one short stretch
The work is construction of the four-lane highway at the damaged location near Tharad: the northbound carriageway from km 70.828 to km 71.500 and the southbound from km 70.815 to km 71.485, on the Udhampur to Ramban section of NH-44. This is the second call. The reference is NHAI/EPC/ROJMU/THARAD/2026/02 from the Regional Office at Jammu.
At roughly ₹45 crore per kilometre this is not ordinary road repair. A price like that on a hill section points to heavy slope and retaining work, and the RFP will show how much is structure.
EPC terms
The contractor gets 548 days. EMD is ₹30,61,000 with no exemption and the fee is ₹10,000. A pre-bid meeting is set for 11:00 AM on 12 October at the Jammu regional office. Bids open at 4:30 PM on 29 October 2026.
NH-44 is the main link to the Kashmir valley, so traffic keeps moving past the site. Excavators with breakers cut and bench the slope, a drilling rig puts in anchors or piles where the design calls for them, and cranes place precast or reinforcement cages for retaining walls. Transit mixers need a batching point close by because closures on this road are frequent. Rollers and a paver finish the carriageway. Contractors already mobilised on the Udhampur to Banihal stretch have an edge.
