Two river bridges with approach roads are open for bidding from the Bhopal Bridge Zone of MP PWD, one across the Narmada in Mandla and one across the Hiran in Jabalpur, and the Narmada Hiran bridge tender closes at 5:30 PM on 14 November 2026.
One high level, one submersible
The Mandla package is a high level bridge including approach road across the Narmada on the Khaleghat Chirai Dongari Budhera Nichali road, valued at ₹38.03 crore. The Jabalpur package is a submersible bridge with approach road across the Hiran on the Jabalpur Indrana Ganiyari Murrai road at ₹32.25 crore. Both sit under reference 14/2026-27 from the Chief Engineer, Bridge Zone, Bhopal.
The two structures are built to different rules. A high level bridge clears the design flood, so it is deeper foundations, taller piers and a longer programme. A submersible bridge is designed to go under water in the monsoon, which keeps it cheaper but makes the working season shorter and the scour protection more important.
840 days for a reason
Both carry 840 days, and on a river crossing that is not generosity. You get roughly eight working months a year between floods, so a 28-month period is really two and a half dry seasons. Plan the foundation work for the first season and do not leave piers half built when the river rises.
EMD is ₹19,01,445 for the Narmada bridge and ₹16,12,695 for the Hiran bridge, about 0.5 per cent each, with no exemption. The fee is ₹50,000 per package and both are percentage rate contracts. Bids open at 11:00 AM on 16 November.
River work needs the right machines on site early
Foundations in a river bed mean dewatering, coffer dams and either wells or piles, so excavators with long reach earn their keep. Approach roads on both packages are ordinary embankment and pavement work for tippers, a motor grader and compactors. Pier and deck concrete has to arrive without a break, which means transit mixers and a standby, plus a crane for shuttering and girders.
Mandla and Jabalpur are about 100 km apart on reasonable roads, so a contractor with two crews can genuinely run both.

What is the difference between the two types?
