Maharashtra plans to put the Nashik Left Bank Canal inside a precast concrete box and run a road over it, and the ₹380.72 crore Nashik Left Bank Canal tender closes at 5:45 PM on 9 November 2026.
An open canal becomes a buried conduit
The Water Resources Department wants the Nashik Left Bank Canal redeveloped into a precast RCC box conduit with integrated road infrastructure from chainage 6/485 km to 19/750 km, a run of about 13.2 km. It is an engineering, procurement and construction contract issued by the Chief Engineer for the North Maharashtra Region at Nashik, through the Executive Engineer of the Nashik Irrigation Division, under e tender notice no 17 for 26-27.
Enclosing a canal cuts the water lost to seepage and evaporation and stops encroachment along the banks. The land freed up on the surface becomes road. For a contractor this is really two jobs sharing one alignment, a precast programme and a road programme, and they have to be sequenced so the conduit is backfilled before the pavement follows.
Precast changes how you price the work
Casting 13 km of box sections means a yard, moulds, a steady supply of cement and aggregate, and enough curing space to keep ahead of laying. The portal allows 540 days. Bid security is ₹1,90,40,000 with no exemption and the fee is ₹11,800. The form of contract is listed as percentage, so study the schedule of rates closely before you fill in your figure.
A canal alignment gives you a long, thin site with limited turning room. Excavators do the trench and the bedding, and a crane sized to the heaviest box section sets the units, which is the machine decision that governs the whole cycle time. Backhoe loaders handle backfill, service shifting and the odd tight pocket. Transit mixers feed the casting yard and the in situ joints, then compactors and a motor grader build the road over the finished conduit.
