Construction Equipment Sales October 2026: Retail Up 22%, JCB Share Falls to 53%

Wheeled construction equipment retail rose 22.07% in October 2026 to 7,434 units, the best month of the financial year so far. It did that against the hardest base of the year, a month that carried both Navratri and Diwali in 2025. Almost all of the growth came from brands other than JCB, and that is the part a buyer can use this month.

The figures

  • Wheeled CE retail: 7,434 units in October 2026, against 6,090 in October 2025 (+22.07%) and 6,486 in September 2026 (+14.62%).
  • April to October FY27: 42,184 units against 40,203 a year earlier, up 4.93%.
  • JCB India: 3,942 units for a 53.03% share, against 3,876 units and 63.65% in October 2025.
  • Action Construction Equipment 740 units (9.95%), Escorts Kubota 552 (7.43%), Ajax Engineering 372 (5.00%), Bull Machines 286 (3.85%).

What FADA reported

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations released the print on 6 November, built from RTO registrations collated on 4 November from 1,468 of 1,469 RTOs. Autocar Professional carried the same construction equipment figures the same morning. FADA called the month “strong, infrastructure-led”. The context matters: total vehicle retail fell 23.80% year on year because Diwali moved into November, with passenger vehicles down 14.23%. Construction equipment was the fastest-growing category in the release.

What moved against last month

JCB held its share. It was 53.35% in September and 53.03% now, with registrations up about 14% from 3,460, in line with the market. Our September read asked whether JCB would stay above 53%. It did, just.

The year-on-year picture is different. JCB added 66 units on October 2025. Everyone else together went from 2,214 to 3,492, roughly 58%. ACE grew about 57%, Escorts Kubota about 67%, and Bull Machines nearly tripled from 99. Doosan Bobcat doubled to 108 and Indo Farm went from 26 to 91. The all-terrain crane line was again the only named entry to fall, from 94 to 75.

The festive window did not drive this. FADA’s final Navratri count (11 to 20 October) is 2,287 machines against 2,285 last year, flat. That is revised up from the 2,240 provisional figure we reported in October. So the gain sat in the rest of the month, which fits project work rather than festival buying.

Escorts Kubota’s stock gap also closed. It dispatched 795 machines in September against 431 registrations. In October it dispatched 640 and registered 552, a gap of 88 units.

Is this a good month to buy a backhoe loader?

It is a good month to compare. When the leader grows 2% and the challengers grow 58%, dealer yards for ACE, Escorts Kubota and Bull are moving, and JCB is defending share rather than taking it. That gives you room on terms. Get written quotes for a backhoe loader from JCB and at least one of ACE, Escorts Kubota or Bull, each with a validity date. Sort out machine finance before you sign so the quote does not lapse while paperwork runs.

Two side signals. Heavy commercial vehicles, the class tippers sit in, rose 28.95% year on year, so tipper chassis lead times may stretch. And FADA’s fuel table shows wheeled CE as virtually all diesel. Plan running costs on that basis.

What could shift it

  • The November print, due in early December, which carries Dhanteras (6 November) and Diwali (8 November) against a post-festive November 2025.
  • Whether JCB’s share slides below 53% month on month, or the challengers’ growth cools once festive stock clears.
  • Escorts Kubota’s November dispatch figure, due around 1 December, against its registrations here.

FAQ

How many construction machines were sold in India in October 2026?

What is JCB’s market share in October 2026?

No. It counts machines registered at RTOs, such as backhoe loaders, wheeled loaders, cranes and truck-mounted concrete equipment. Crawler excavators are not registered and do not appear.

Pricing a machine before Diwali? Line up quotes from two or three brands, compare them side by side, and check your loan eligibility early so you can close while dealer stock is high. Escorts Kubota’s own October dispatch numbers are in our Escorts Kubota October 2026 sales report.
