L&T Building Orders: 19 Towers Across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, 41 Basement Levels

Larsen & Toubro has taken a fresh batch of building orders that adds up to 19 towers across three cities, and the floor counts matter more to a machine owner than the rupee figure. Nine 50-floor towers in Mumbai, nine towers with three basements each in Bengaluru and one commercial tower going five basements down in Hyderabad are three different jobs. One is a crane and pump job. The other two start with a lot of digging.

The work at a glance

  • Mumbai: nine high-rise residential towers, each with one basement and 50 floors.
  • Bengaluru: nine residential towers, each with three basements and 25 floors.
  • Hyderabad: one premium commercial tower with five basements and 22 floors.
  • L&T classes the orders as “significant”, its band for Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore. No exact value, client name or completion period was given.

What L&T disclosed

L&T announced the orders on 2 November 2026 through its Residential, Commercial Buildings and Factories business, in a release filed with the stock exchanges that morning. It said the orders came from one client and that the business also picked up add-on orders on some projects already under way. PSU Connect carried the release in full, and HDFC Sky, Business Upturn and NBM&CW reported the same tower counts and value band the same day. Because the band also covers those add-on orders, no per-tower value can be worked out.

Which machines this work needs

Count the levels below ground first. Across the three sites that comes to 41 basement levels: nine in Mumbai, 27 in Bengaluru and five under the single Hyderabad tower. Above ground there are 697 floors, and 450 of them are in Mumbai.

Bengaluru is the excavation job. Nine three-level basements mean bulk digging with 20 to 30-tonne excavators, tippers working city haul routes, and shoring before the walls go in. Bengaluru sites often hit hard rock a few metres down, and where they do, breaker-fitted excavators set the pace more than bucket size.

Hyderabad is deep but on one footprint. Five basements under a single tower means a long, narrow dig: shoring or piled walls first, then excavation in stages, with dewatering and rock breaking where the Deccan granite shows up. Blasting is hard to get permission for in a built-up area, so breakers and rock-splitting kit usually do that work.

Mumbai is the vertical job. Nine 50-floor towers keep tower cranes, hoists, climbing formwork and high-pressure concrete pumps busy for years. Earthmoving there is short, since each tower has only one basement. Mobile cranes and boom pump trucks come in for the raft and podium pours.

Our view, with a caveat because L&T gave no schedule: the Bengaluru and Hyderabad basements are the near-term opportunity for owners who rent out machines. Big building contractors tend to run their own cranes and concrete plant and hand basement digging to excavation subcontractors, and digs of this size usually finish within the first year. Owners who want that work should get onto the vendor lists early. Our guide to L&T vendor registration covers how that works.

What follows next

  • The client’s name, which may come out through the developer’s own filings or project launches.
  • Excavation and shoring subcontracts at the Bengaluru and Hyderabad sites, where basement digging comes first.
  • L&T’s Q2 results, which should show how much these orders add to its buildings order book.

FAQ

How much are L&T’s new building orders worth?

L&T did not give an exact figure. It classed them as “significant”, which in its scale means Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore, and that band also covers add-on orders on ongoing projects.

Who is the client?

L&T did not name the client. The release says only that all three developments came from one client.

Which site needs the most earthmoving?

Bengaluru, with nine towers on three basements each, or 27 basement levels. Hyderabad is the deepest dig at five basements, but it is a single tower.
