Slide treatment is not road building. Each location is designed on its own: some need a rock bolted and shotcreted face, others need a toe wall and drainage, a few need the road moved. Slide sites are steep, narrow and often reachable only from the road itself. The useful machines are compact: a small or medium excavator that can be walked onto a bench, a backhoe loader for drains and toe work, and tippers short enough to turn on a hill road.
Anchors and soil nails need drilling rigs with a small footprint, and shotcrete needs a pump with concrete arriving in small reliable batches from a mixer. A crane comes in for gabion cages, netting panels and heavy culvert units. Work stops in the monsoon, which is when slides move, so the 545 days spread across two working seasons rather than one.
