NH-333A Bypasses Tender, Bihar (Rs351.98 Cr)

Six bypasses totalling 19.450 km on NH-333A in Bihar have gone out to tender at Rs351.98 crore on EPC terms, and bids close on 7 September 2026.

Bihar keeps producing steady mid-size highway packages, and this one bundles six separate bypasses into a single EPC contract. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways wants bypasses built at Mangobandhar, Kendua, Tolesono, Jhajha, Narganjo and Bhairoganj, running to 19.450 km in all, plus two DLP-free sections adding up to 21.821 km, brought to two-lane-plus-paved-shoulder standard.

What is being built

Bypasses are greenfield alignments, which changes the work profile compared to widening an existing road. Each of the six needs land clearance, fresh embankment, cross-drainage structures and tie-ins at both ends where it meets the existing NH-333A. The two DLP-free sections are a different animal: those are stretches on the existing carriageway brought up to standard without a defect liability period attached in the usual way, so the pricing logic differs from the bypass scope.

Six discrete sites spread along one national highway means a bidder is really running six small jobs at once, with the mobilisation and supervision cost that implies. Plant deployment planning matters more here than on a single continuous stretch.

Who should look at it

At Rs351.98 crore this sits in reach of established regional road contractors, not just the national names. A firm with prior NH experience in Bihar or eastern UP, its own earthmoving and paving fleet, and the working capital to run parallel fronts is well placed. The Patna regional office is the issuing point, so contractors already prequalified with RO Patna have a head start.

Fleet requirements

Embankment construction across six sites drives the machine count: excavators loading, tippers hauling borrow material over distance, dozers spreading, motor graders trimming and soil compactors sealing each layer. Bituminous work needs a hot mix plant, sensor paver, tandem and pneumatic tyre rollers. Cross-drainage structures pull in a batching plant, transit mixers and hydraulic cranes. Running six fronts usually means either a larger owned fleet or firm hire arrangements locked before mobilisation.
