NH-49 Strengthening Tenders: Two Odisha Stretches with DBM and BC (Rs 87.06 Cr)

NHAI has put two back to back strengthening packages on NH-49 in Odisha out together at Rs 87.06 crore, and both NH-49 strengthening tenders close at 11:00 AM on 26 November 2026.

Both sides of Jharsuguda, one corridor

The larger package covers selected stretches from km 265.300 at Jharsuguda to km 351.234 at Teleibani, valued at Rs 49,87,23,153 with 90 days of work. The second runs from km 0 at Kanaktora to km 68 at Jharsuguda, valued at Rs 37,19,13,406 with 120 days. Both are strengthening with dense bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete, on item rate, from the Bhubaneswar regional office under consecutive references NHAI/13012/271/RO/OD/2212/2026 and NHAI/13012/272/RO/OD/2213/2026.

Put end to end, the two packages run from Kanaktora through Jharsuguda to Teleibani, so they are two halves of the same programme on the same highway with the same deadline. That is why they are treated as one opportunity here, and why a bidder with capacity should price both.

Flat deposits and a very short programme

Each package carries a flat deposit of Rs 50,00,000 regardless of value, so the effective percentage differs: about 1 per cent on the Jharsuguda Teleibani package and about 1.3 per cent on the Kanaktora Jharsuguda one. The fee is Rs 10,000 each. Bids open at 11:30 AM on 27 November.

Ninety days for Rs 49.87 crore of bituminous work is the headline risk. The programme assumes a plant already running nearby and a paving train that does not stop. NHAI has other Odisha work live, including pavement strengthening on NH-20 between Panikoili and Rimuli, and the water resources department is building a storage structure at Samasingha in Jharsuguda district.

Hot mix capacity decides this one

DBM and BC work is plant led. The real constraint is tonnes per day out of the hot mix plant and whether tippers can keep the paver fed over leads that reach 85 km on the longer package. Wheel loaders feed the plant, compactors in tandem and pneumatic tyred form follow the paver, and a motor grader handles profile correction and shoulder dressing. Backhoe loaders cut out the failed patches ahead of the overlay and clean the side drains. On a 90 day job, machines on hire out of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh beat anything that has to travel.
