NHAI is hiring one agency to maintain 72.6 km of NH-766 in Kerala for a year and to run safety and incident management across the whole 117.6 km, and the NH-766 maintenance tender closes at 11:30 AM on 17 November 2026.
Maintenance on part of it, response on all of it
The scope splits in two. Operation and maintenance covers Km 5.000 to 15.000, Km 45.000 to 66.000 and Km 76.000 to 117.600, which is 72.6 km in three separate reaches. Road safety and incident management services cover the entire Km 0.000 to Km 117.600 section. PIU Kozhikode is the inviting office, reference PROJ-33015/1/2026-PIU Kozhikode/331417, and the term is 12 months at ₹77,54,00,000.
NH-766 runs from Kozhikode towards Kollegal, climbing through the Wayanad ghats and past the national park. The three reaches under maintenance are the ones NHAI is responsible for directly; the stretches in between sit under other arrangements. Incident management across the full length means crash recovery, ambulance and patrol cover, not just patching.
A one year contract with real plant requirements
EMD is ₹78,00,000 with no exemption, and the fee is ₹20,000. Bids open at 11:30 AM on 18 November, a day after closing. Twelve months is short for a maintenance contract, so mobilisation has to be quick and the route patrol and response units need to be in place from day one.
For a machine owner this is steady work rather than a single big push: pothole repair, drain clearing, shoulder dressing, crash barrier and sign repair, through a monsoon that is among the heaviest in India. Kerala has the Kallada river regulator tender open, and the nearest comparable highway contract is NHAI’s five year O and M tender on NH-30 in Andhra Pradesh.
A small fleet that has to be available every day
Maintenance work rewards versatility over size. A backhoe loader is the main machine, used for drain clearing, shoulder repair, culvert work and loading debris. Add a tipper or two, a small excavator for slips and silted side drains in the ghat section, and a compactor for patch repair. Bituminous repair needs a hot mix or pothole repair unit on call, and the ghat reaches need recovery capability because a breakdown on a hairpin blocks the road. Keeping machines available matters more than owning big ones here.
