Tawang Slope Protection Tenders: BRO Treats Zigs on the NGG-LGG Road (Rs 66.85 Cr)

The Border Roads Organisation has two hill slope protection packages open on the NGG-LGG road in Tawang district worth ₹66.85 crore together, and both Tawang slope protection tenders close at 11:00 AM on 17 December 2026.

Seven zigs at a time

Package-I, ₹35.16 crore, covers hill slope protection on 07 zigs from km 40.674 to km 41.136. Package-III, ₹31.69 crore, does the same on 07 zigs from km 43.372 to km 43.900. Both sit under 125 RCC of 763 BRTF in Project Vartak, and the inviting office is HQ Chief Engineer (Project) Vartak at Tezpur. References are CE (P) VTK/NIB/06/2026-27 and CE (P) VTK/NIB/07/2026-27.

A zig is a hairpin on a mountain road, and the hillside above and below it is where slides start. Spending ₹35 crore on 462 metres of road tells you how much structure goes in: breast walls, retaining walls, anchored mesh, drainage and apron work on very steep ground.

Terms and the working season

EMD is ₹35,16,109 and ₹31,68,554, 1 per cent in both cases, with a ₹10,000 fee each. Each package has 365 days and bids open at 12:00 noon on 18 December. At Tawang altitudes a year means one real working season, so mobilisation in the spring has to be ready to go before the snow clears.

BRO has larger greenfield work in the same state, including the 58.907 km Nacho Bangte Neying road and the 81.686 km Tapa Karu Sering Bagan alignment. Slope protection is the better entry point for a smaller contractor with hill experience.

Small machines, difficult access

You cannot get a big fleet onto a zig. The work runs on compact and medium excavators with breakers, often working off benched platforms, backhoe loaders for drains and anchor platforms, and tippers small enough to turn on the road. Concrete for walls comes from site mixers because transit mixers cannot negotiate the bends, and a crane may be needed to place heavier sections. Keep spare hoses, breaker tools and a mechanic on site: a recovery run from Tezpur costs days.
