NH-148N Overlay Tender: SMA on Package-29 of the Delhi Vadodara Expressway, Gujarat (Rs 46.57 Cr)

NHAI wants 22.5 km of stone matrix asphalt laid on Package-29 of the Delhi Vadodara Expressway in Gujarat, and the NH-148N overlay tender closes at 4:00 PM on 5 November 2026.

Twenty-two kilometres of asphalt in ninety days

The work runs from village Bhamaiya at Ch. 780.920 to village Baletia at Ch. 803.420, which the notice also gives as design chainage 328.500 to 351.000, on the DVE section of NH-148N. The surface course is stone matrix asphalt, a gap-graded mix with a high stone-on-stone content that lasts longer under heavy axle loads than ordinary bituminous concrete.

NHAI Regional Office Gandhinagar has put 90 days against it, reference NHAI/ROGNR/NE4/DVE-29/R-C/2026. Ninety days for 22.5 km of SMA on a live expressway is a tight programme, so the paving train has to be sized for it from day one.

Risk and cost changes who pays, not what you build

The notice is issued at the risk and cost of the contractor on a single percentage item rate basis. NHAI is getting work done that an existing contractor did not finish, and recovering the money from that contractor. For you as the bidder it is a normal measured contract: you quote one percentage above or below the schedule, you execute, NHAI pays you.

EMD is ₹46,57,000 against an estimate of ₹46,56,68,141, which is almost exactly 1 per cent. The fee is ₹10,000 and bids open at 4:30 PM the next day. The same regional office has SMA overlay out on Packages 30 and 31 of the same expressway, closing a week later, so a bidder with one paving set-up can chase three packages on one corridor. Further north on the same expressway system, NHAI is also taking bids for the interchange at Sardar Patel Ring Road on the Ahmedabad Dholera expressway.

A hot-mix fleet, and the discipline to feed it

SMA needs a modified binder, a fibre or filler dose and a plant that can hold the mix temperature over a long haul. Plan on a sensor paver, tandem and pneumatic tyre rollers in the right sequence, and wheel loaders keeping the plant fed through the night.
