Dilip Buildcon has received the Letter of Award for the Rs 688.23 crore four-lane elevated corridor on NH-65 through Solapur city, a month after it was declared the lowest bidder. With the LoA in hand, the 9.66 km job is a firm order. It is mostly piling and concrete work, so the machines it pulls are piling rigs, cranes, batching plants and concrete pumps rather than a big earthmoving spread.
The quick facts
- Award: Letter of Award to Dilip Buildcon for the four-lane elevated corridor with approaches from Old Pune Naka to Boramani Naka on NH-65 in Solapur City, filed on BSE at 10:52 IST on 29 October 2026.
- Value: Rs 688.23 crore excluding GST, on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), with NHAI as the client.
- Length: 9.66 km, from Km 0.050 to Km 9.710.
- Term: 24 months of construction, then 15 years of operation from the commercial operation date.
What Dilip Buildcon disclosed
The company filed the award under Regulation 30 on Thursday morning. InvestyWise reported the same value, chainage, mode and periods from that filing. On 28 September the company had disclosed that it was L-1 on this package, and Angel One and HDFC Sky reported the same scope at that stage. The filing does not give an appointed date, the share of viaduct versus at-grade approaches, or the construction method for the deck.
What does Rs 71 crore a kilometre buy?
Rs 688.23 crore over 9.66 km comes to about Rs 71 crore per km. That is below the roughly Rs 93 crore a kilometre we worked out for the Visakhapatnam Port elevated road, which is a shorter structure inside a port estate. No at-grade widening job comes near either rate. Nearly all of the money goes into foundations, piers and deck, not pavement.
What it means for buyers
An urban viaduct of this length is a piling-and-concrete contract. Expect hydraulic rotary piling rigs working down the existing road, crawler cranes for pier cages, pier caps and girder or segment erection, and a batching plant feeding transit mixers and boom concrete pumps for the full term. The approaches at each end need fill, so mid-size excavators, tippers and soil compactors get a shorter, earlier window. Solapur sits on Deccan basalt, so some piles may need rock socketing, which favours heavier rigs. The design has not been published, so treat that as a possibility, not a spec.
On money flow, Rs 688 crore over 24 months is about Rs 29 crore of work a month once the site is running. Under NHAI’s standard HAM terms, 40 per cent of the bid project cost (about Rs 275 crore here) is paid during construction against milestones. The rest comes back as annuities over the 15-year operation period. That means Dilip Buildcon finances most of the build.
Our take: Dilip Buildcon runs a large owned fleet, so the core piling and crane work will probably stay in-house. Local owners in Maharashtra are better placed for hire work: transit mixers, tippers, backhoe loaders for utility shifting, and small cranes. A HAM job also needs a concession agreement and financial closure before the appointed date, so heavy mobilisation is more likely months away than weeks.
What to watch
- The concession agreement signing and the appointed date, which starts the 24-month clock.
- Whether the deck goes precast segmental (launching gantry) or girder-based (crane-led). The method decides crane class.
- Utility-shifting and traffic-diversion sub-contracts on NH-65 inside Solapur, which come first.
