IRCON has put three packages of slope protection and yard work on the Sivok Rangpo railway line out on the same evening, together worth ₹664.80 crore, and all three close at 3:00 PM on 19 November 2026.
One hillside, three contracts
Package I, tender ID 2026_IRCON_296433_1, covers slope protection above formation level at Melli Yard with associated ancillary works, at ₹2,48,93,40,602 and 365 days. Package II, 2026_IRCON_296436_1, takes slope protection above and below formation level at the same yard plus the station approach road and a box culvert, at ₹2,34,63,25,302 and 365 days. Package III, 2026_IRCON_296438_1, is the balance of the Rangpo yard: slope protection, side and berm drains, RCC works, drainage, slope monitoring instrumentation and rockfall barriers, at ₹1,81,24,20,470 and 300 days.
All three sit under the new broad gauge Sivok Rangpo line, the rail link being built from north Bengal towards Sikkim. The portal places the work in Darjeeling district, West Bengal. Corporate headquarters in New Delhi is the inviting office through its civil engineering wing, and the reference numbers run IRCON/2046/NFR SRRP/Slope Protection/Package I, II and III of 2026.
Why these three went out together
This is a rescue and finishing programme rather than fresh formation. The line crosses young Himalayan rock above the Teesta, where cut slopes keep moving, and the scope reads like the answer to that: rockfall barriers, instrumented slopes, drains on every berm. Each package carries a ₹50,000 fee, EMD of ₹4,97,86,900, ₹4,69,26,600 and ₹3,62,48,500 in order, no exemption, and the form of contract is percentage rate on the portal.
A contractor can bid one package or all three. Winning two adjacent ones at Melli would share a single camp, crusher and shotcrete plant, which is where the margin is. North Bengal highway work is open as well, including the Surul Mallarpur NH-114 tender and the NH-14 strengthening tender in Birbhum.
Specialist gear, and plenty of ordinary machines too
Slope work needs equipment that can sit on a bench cut into a hillside. Long-boom and compact excavators with breakers do the scaling and benching, anchor and soil-nail drilling rigs follow, and shotcrete pumps spray the face. Below that it becomes conventional: backhoe loaders for drains and culverts, transit mixers for the RCC, a crane to place barrier posts and precast units, and compactors on the approach road. Monsoon shuts the hillside down for weeks, so the 300 and 365 day periods are tighter than they look.
Three separate packages of slope protection and yard work on the new broad gauge Sivok Rangpo railway line: above formation level at Melli Yard, above and below formation level at Melli Yard with the station approach road, and the balance works at Rangpo yard.
