NHAI now has both packages of the six-lane access-controlled greenfield highway past Ahilyanagar open together, ₹16,626.71 crore across 374 kilometres, and bidding on both closes on 30 September 2026.

This is the largest single works package on the Ahilyanagar-Solapur-Akkalkot corridor, and at ₹9,030 crore it is one of the biggest road contracts open in the country right now. The alignment runs from Ahilyanagar at design chainage 290.000 to Hasapur at 512.000, which is roughly 222 kilometres of new carriageway built on fresh ground rather than widened over an existing road.

Package 1 is now open too

The other half of the alignment came out to tender as well. Package 1, tender ID 2026_NHAI_277028_1 under reference NHAI/MH/ Nashik-Ahilyanagar/ PkgI, develops the six-lane greenfield highway from the junction with NH-60 at Adgaon, design chainage 138.000, to Ahilyanagar at 290.000. That is about 152 kilometres, estimated at ₹7,596.33 crore with earnest money of ₹75,96,00,000, exactly one per cent, and a tender fee of ₹7,60,000. It is an item rate works contract published on 9 May 2026, closing 30 September 2026 and opening 1 October 2026, the same dates as Package 2.

The two run end to end: Package 1 finishes at Ahilyanagar chainage 290.000 and Package 2 starts there. A contractor can bid one or both, and each carries its own earnest money, so chasing both means parking about ₹166 crore before the bid even opens.

What the package covers

Greenfield means the highway is cut on a new alignment, so almost nothing is inherited. Land has to be cleared, the formation raised from scratch, and structures built where there were none. Access control adds service roads, underpasses and grade-separated entries along the length, because traffic cannot simply join the main carriageway wherever it likes.

The contract is an item rate award across two covers with 120 days of bid validity. One corrigendum has already been issued on this tender and it moved the closing date, so check the current NIT before you price anything from an older copy.

Who is likely to bid

A package this size sits with the national road majors. The bid security alone is ₹90.30 crore, which prices out anyone without a large bank line, and NHAI’s qualification thresholds on a ₹9,000 crore item rate contract will ask for comparable completed highway work rather than aggregate turnover.

For everyone below that tier, the real opening comes after the award. A 222 kilometre greenfield job is subcontracted in stretches, and the earthwork, structures and service-road packages get parcelled out to regional firms. Machine owners across Ahilyanagar, Solapur and Beed should be tracking who wins this, not the bid itself.

Plant this corridor will run

Greenfield highway construction is an earthmoving job before it is a paving job. Expect large excavator fleets on cut and fill, wheel loaders feeding crushers and stockpiles, and a long tipper chain that runs continuously for months. Soil compactors and heavy tandem rollers follow the spread, and motor graders hold the formation levels across every kilometre. The structures work brings concrete plant and cranes for girder handling at the underpasses and grade separators. On a corridor of this length a contractor typically sets up several independent fleets rather than moving one spread along the alignment.

Can a mid-size contractor get work here?

Not as the main bidder. The bid security of ₹90.30 crore and NHAI’s qualification bar put the main contract with national players, but a 222 kilometre greenfield alignment is subcontracted in stretches for earthwork, structures and service roads once it is awarded.
