Twenty nine kilometres of NH-161A between Akola and Mahan are being widened and a 3.16 km four-lane bypass built around Barshi Takli, together worth ₹298.94 crore, and the Akola Mahan tender closes at 5:30 PM on 30 October 2026.
A widening job with a bypass attached
The scope is rehabilitation, upgradation and widening from km 35.265 to km 64.574 of NH-161A, a length of 29.309 km, including construction of the Barshi Takli bypass to a four-lane with paved shoulder configuration over 3.160 km, in Maharashtra. The NH Division at Akola handles it under reference 05/EEH/AKL/2025-26, Dt.28.05.2025, and the period of work is 548 days.
Eighteen months is a short clock for two different kinds of work. The bypass is greenfield four-lane construction while the main line is widening in traffic, and they need different crews running in parallel rather than one after the other.
Deposit and dates
The estimate is ₹2,98,94,00,000, EMD is ₹2,98,94,000 at 1 per cent with no exemption, and the fee is ₹35,400. The notice has been live since 30 May 2025 and bids open at 5:30 PM on 2 November 2026.
Akola is deep black cotton soil country, which swells in the monsoon and cracks open in summer. Embankment on that subgrade needs either replacement or a treated capping layer, so excavators and tippers carry more volume per kilometre than the geometry suggests. Compactors and a motor grader then build the layers in thin lifts.
The bypass brings culverts and a few minor structures, so transit mixers and a crane come in for a few months. On the widening reaches backhoe loaders do the drains, approaches and utility shifting. Akola, Washim and Amravati owners are all inside a short mobilisation.
