The Arwal bypass runs from km 54.200 to km 66.500 of the existing NH-139 on the Naubatpur to Hariharganj road, with a design chainage of 67.680. That is roughly 12 to 13 km of greenfield alignment built to access-controlled standards, tendered by the Regional Officer, Patna, under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

A new alignment on this scale is earthwork-heavy from day one. Land clearing and embankment building come first, then subgrade and granular layers, structures where the bypass crosses drains and village roads, and finally the bituminous pavement.
