What’s being built

The Gujarat Water Supply & Sewerage Board (GWSSB), Public Health Circle Surat, has put out a design-and-build package for a water supply scheme drawing from the right bank of the Bhadbhut barrage. It feeds industries in GIDC estates and rural areas across Bharuch and Vadodara districts. Work runs from an intake well with approach bridge, through DI-K9 and MS rising mains, an RCC sump, pump house, staff quarters and a compound wall, out to the pumping machinery and the electro-mechanical, instrumentation and SCADA works from headworks to sub-headworks. The winner also carries 10 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance. Estimated value is ₹828.09 crore.

Who should bid

This is one for water-infra EPC firms comfortable with survey, design, heavy civil and a decade of O&M rolled into a single contract. You’ll need pipeline-laying experience at scale and the appetite for ₹8.28 crore EMD. Contractors who specialise in pipe supply and laying, RCC structures or pump-house civil can slot in under the main bidder.

Equipment the scheme calls for

Sinking an intake well and casting an approach bridge brings in cranes, piling rigs and concrete equipment. The rising mains need excavators and backhoe loaders for trenching, pipe-layers and cranes for lowering large-diameter DI and MS pipe, plus compactors to restore the trench. A batching plant supports the sump and pump-house civil.
