The dam that supplies a large share of Mumbai’s water is going in for repair, and the ₹179.89 crore Bhatsa dam tender closes at 6:00 PM on 13 November 2026.
Treating both faces and drilling through the body
The Water Resources Department of the Konkan region, through the Thane Irrigation Circle and the Bhatsa Dam Management Division at Bhatsanagar, wants cementitious treatment applied to the upstream and downstream faces of Bhatsa major dam, along with drilling, grouting and the redrilling of vertical porous drains. The site is in Shahapur taluka of Thane district, reference Tender Notice No.14 for 2026-27, and the published value is ₹1,79,88,88,531.
Vertical porous drains relieve water pressure inside a masonry or concrete dam. When they silt up, the uplift goes back into the structure, so redrilling them is maintenance that keeps the dam safe rather than cosmetic repair. The contract runs 1,095 days on a percentage rate basis.
Specialist work with an ordinary looking deposit
EMD is ₹89,94,443, about half a per cent of the estimate, with no exemption, and the fee is ₹11,800. Bids open at 11:00 AM on 16 November. The low deposit against a ₹180 crore value is worth noticing: the department is not using EMD to filter the field, so technical qualification in the document will be doing that job instead.
Dam grouting is a trade with few players. Firms with pressure grouting records and face treatment experience are the real target here, often working with a local civil partner for access and support. Elsewhere in Maharashtra the Nashik left bank canal tender and the Ulhasnagar water supply tender are open.
What the site actually needs
Most of the spend here is in drilling and grout plant, not earthmoving. You need core and percussion drilling rigs working off platforms on the dam face, grout mixers and pumps with recording equipment, and safe access staging. Around that sits ordinary support: an excavator and a backhoe loader to cut access benches and handle muck, a crane to lift plant onto the crest, and mixers for the cementitious coats. Reservoir level dictates when the upstream face can be worked, so the programme bends around the monsoon and the drawdown.
