Western Railway has put two construction packages on the Chhota Udepur–Dhar new line out to tender, together worth ₹3,097.60 crore in Madhya Pradesh, with both bids closing on 9 October 2026.
The two packages cover consecutive stretches of the same alignment. Package A runs from Tanda Road onward to Jamaniya, carrying an estimated value of ₹1,829.95 crore. Package B picks up from Jamaniya and runs to Tirla at ₹1,267.65 crore. Both are issued by the Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Baroda, and both are managed through the Dhar construction unit named in the reference numbers.
What the work actually involves
Each package is a composite contract. The civil half is the bulk of it: formation earthwork, viaducts, minor and major bridges, road under-bridges and subways, station buildings, staff quarters, platforms and passenger amenities, then supply and spreading of ballast, track linking and P-Way work. Bolted onto that are the 25 kV AC overhead electrification and the telecom outdoor systems, which bring trenching, cable laying, blowing and splicing of 48F optical fibre on both sides of the track, a one-side quad cable and an emergency communication system.
For a contractor reading the scope, the money sits in the earthwork and the structures. Two packages on one alignment also means the winning bidders will be working next to each other, sharing haul roads and quarry sources through the same seasons.
Who this suits
These are large heavy-civil railway contracts, so the lead bidder will be an established EPC firm with railway formation and bridge credentials. That said, work of this size runs on subcontracted fleets. If you own earthmoving or road-building machines in the Dhar, Jhabua or Alirajpur belt, the realistic route in is a package with the main contractor rather than a direct bid.
Machines the job will pull in
Formation earthwork over two long sections means excavators and dozers moving cut and fill, tippers on continuous haul, and soil compactors and motor graders shaping the blanket layer. Bridge and viaduct work adds batching plants, concrete pumps and cranes for girder handling. Ballast spreading and track linking bring their own specialist plant late in the programme, but the first two years belong to earthmoving fleets.
