Porbandar Municipal Corporation has retendered its underground drainage project at Rs122.98 crore, covering two sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and the sewer network, with bids closing on 12 August 2026.
This is the second attempt at the package, which usually means the first round did not draw enough qualifying bids. For contractors, a retender is often the better moment to look, because the field is thinner and the authority is keen to award.
Porbandar Municipal Corporation wants sewage treatment plants of 11.00 and 3.00 MLD designed and built, along with various pumping stations, a rising main network, the sewer network, and solar panels supplied, installed, tested and commissioned. Operation and maintenance runs two years for the network and solar, and seven years for the treatment plants.
The work in sections
Three streams run in parallel here. The plants at 11 MLD and 3 MLD are design-and-construct, so process responsibility sits with the bidder. The network scope is classic trenching work: designing, providing, supplying, lowering, laying and jointing both the rising main and the gravity sewer, which across a coastal town of Porbandar’s size adds up to a lot of open-cut running through built-up streets. The pumping stations and solar installation sit alongside.
The long O&M tail matters commercially. Seven years on the STPs means the winning bidder is signing up to run the plants, not just hand them over, and the price has to carry staffing, power and consumables for that period.
Who this suits
Water and sanitation contractors registered in Gujarat, with treatment-plant process capability and the appetite for a long O&M commitment, are the intended bidders. Because the network portion is heavy on trenching and pipe laying, plant owners and pipeline subcontractors around Porbandar, Jamnagar and Rajkot have a clear route in through the main contractor.
Machines the job will run
Sewer and rising main work is backhoe loader and excavator territory, with trench shoring and dewatering sets given the coastal water table. Tippers shift excavated spoil and bring in bedding material, and compactors handle the backfill and road reinstatement behind the pipe crews. The two treatment plants add a concrete programme with transit mixers, pumps and hydraulic cranes for tank internals, screens and pumps. Since much of the network runs under live town roads, machine size is limited by street width more than by the volume of work.
