Two border roads in Champhai district are out to tender together, worth ₹215.58 crore between them, and the Border Roads Organisation closes both on 14 September 2026.

What is on offer

This Mizoram border road tender is really two packages issued back to back by HQ Chief Engineer (Project) Pushpak. The first covers construction of the Sailulak to IMB road from Km 0.00 to Km 18.560, valued at ₹102.08 crore under NIB 06 of 2026-27. The second covers the Thekte to IMB road from Km 0.00 to Km 20.308, valued at ₹113.50 crore under NIB 07 of 2026-27. Both are being built to National Highway Single Lane specification and both go out on EPC mode with a lump-sum contract. IMB is the Indo-Myanmar border, so these are access roads running up to the frontier through hill country in Champhai.

Who should bid

Either package on its own is a ₹100 crore-plus job, which puts it in reach of established hill-road contractors rather than local firms. The earnest money is exactly one per cent of the estimate in both cases, ₹1,02,08,000 for Sailulak and ₹1,13,50,000 for Thekte, so a bidder chasing both needs about ₹2.16 crore parked before bidding even starts. Bid validity is 120 days. A contractor already working in the northeast has an edge here, because the real cost driver is mobilising plant into Champhai and keeping it fed through the monsoon, not the earthwork rate itself.

Machines you will need

Nearly 39 km of new hill road to NHSL standard means hydraulic excavators doing benching and cutting on side slopes, tippers hauling spoil to designated dumps, and rock breakers where the cut face turns hard. Formation work calls for motor graders and soil compactors, and the carriageway needs pavers with tandem and pneumatic rollers behind them. Retaining structures and breast walls along a hill alignment usually add a batching plant, transit mixers and a small crane or two. Expect to keep spare hydraulic hoses and undercarriage on site, because turnaround from Aizawl is slow.

Next steps

Hill and border roadwork is a steady lane on this pillar. In the same terrain band, the Gue to Pong road tender in Himachal Pradesh is taking bids, and further east the Baihata to Tezpur four-laning tender on NH-15 and the Brahmaputra underwater tunnel tender are both open in Assam.

FAQ

Can I bid for only one of the two roads?

Yes. Sailulak and Thekte carry separate tender IDs, separate NIB numbers and separate earnest money, so they are priced and awarded independently. Bidding both simply means two full submissions and two deposits.

What is the earnest money on each package?

₹1,02,08,000 on Sailulak and ₹1,13,50,000 on Thekte. Both work out to exactly one per cent of the estimate, and the tender fee is ₹20,000 per package, payable offline.

Why does the Thekte package show a July publication date?

Thekte was invited on 17 July 2026 and Sailulak on 7 September 2026, but a corrigendum on each moved both to the same 14 September deadline. Check the corrigendum documents on the portal, since the terms were amended after publication.

What does NHSL specification mean for the build?

It is the National Highway Single Lane standard, so the finished road carries a single carriageway built to highway geometry and pavement design rather than a village road section. That raises the formation, drainage and pavement quality you have to deliver.
