Three OEMs launched machines at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026 this week and every one of them ran on diesel. SANY India took a different route: of the 31 machines on its stand, battery-electric models turn up in eight separate classes. For an Indian buyer that is the part worth reading, because it changes where the machine can work, not just what it costs.

Construction World and Autocar Professional both carried the stand list on 16 September, and they agree on the models. Deepak Garg, vice chairman and managing director of SANY India, tied the display to infrastructure demand, saying India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat is creating opportunities for the equipment industry. Two gaps are worth flagging up front. The per-category launch counts the desks published account for roughly eleven of the thirteen products; neither itemises the rest. And no prices, charge times or battery warranty terms were disclosed for any electric model.
What does an electric range actually change for buyers?
Battery machines only pencil out where the machine comes home. A captive mine, a port yard, a batching plant, a fixed haul loop: somewhere with a known parking spot and a power connection. That is exactly the shape of the SKT115E mining truck, the 7540E tipper and the SRSC45E3 reach stacker. Put an electric wheel loader on a scattered district-road job with three sites in a week and there is nowhere to plug it in.
Sit with the 462 kWh figure for a moment. Charging a pack that size is a civil job in its own right, with a transformer, a feeder and a slab to pour. Budget it as site infrastructure, not as an accessory to the machine. The second cost nobody quotes is residual value. A diesel excavator has five years of resale prints behind it; electric construction equipment in India has none, so the owner carries that risk alone for now.
The quieter item on the stand may matter more to more buyers. Piling work is what metro and expressway structures pull, and a rig built for Indian conditions lands in a segment where demand is already running. Note too that the SSR110C-10 PRO compactor on display was launched in India back in September 2025, so read the 31 machines as the range, not as the news.
Our take: the electric line reads as a bid for captive-site owners rather than the open-hire contractor, and the absence of pricing suggests SANY is still testing what that buyer will pay. Compare it with the diesel launches at the same show. The Volvo EC650 and Caterpillar’s Cat 355 both went after rock and quarry duty with proven economics. SANY is asking a different question, and it needs a charger to answer it.
What to watch
