JCB and Construction Machine Battery Price in India by Ah Rating

A JCB 3DX backhoe loader battery (12 volt, 130Ah) costs about ₹12,300 to ₹13,800 on Amaron’s own price list for that machine, and Amaron takes up to ₹2,325 off when you hand back the old battery. A smaller 100Ah machine battery is listed at about ₹9,000 to ₹11,000, and the heavy 150Ah to 180Ah batteries used in pairs on excavators and wheel loaders at about ₹10,500 to ₹17,900 each. People search “JCB battery price” for any backhoe loader, and the battery is much the same across the class: one 12 volt battery of 100Ah to 180Ah. What does a battery cost for each construction machine?

The battery size for each machine type comes from the specifications published for the machines in our catalogue. The price column is the listed price for a new heavy-duty starting battery of that size.

Where a machine takes a size between two listed sizes, such as 120Ah, the table shows the next size up, because a slightly larger battery in the same case size is the usual choice.

Where the prices come from: 100Ah and 130Ah from Amaron’s recommended-battery pages for JCB machines (prices shown with GST); 75Ah to 90Ah, 150Ah and 180Ah from Exide and Amaron heavy-vehicle battery listings on IndiaMART, Moglix and BatteryBoss. Inverter and tubular batteries were left out, because they are a different product and are not made to start a diesel engine.

How much does a JCB 3DX battery cost?

Amaron’s own site lists three 12 volt, 130Ah batteries for the JCB 3DX diesel, and the difference between them is mostly the warranty:

Amaron also gives a rebate of up to ₹2,325 when you return a similar old battery, which can bring the cost of a replacement down to about ₹10,000 to ₹11,500. Exide, SF Sonic and other makers sell batteries of the same size for the same machines; compare them on Ah rating, warranty months and the exchange offer rather than on the headline price.

For a smaller backhoe or compact machine that runs a 100Ah battery, Amaron lists 100Ah batteries at ₹9,007 to ₹11,024 including GST, one per machine.

Why do batteries of the same Ah rating have different prices?

• Warranty length. A battery with 42 months of cover costs more than one with 24 months, and it is usually built with thicker plates to last that long.
• Free and pro-rata months. “Free” months mean a straight replacement. “Pro-rata” months mean you pay part of the price of a new battery, and the share rises as the battery ages.
• Cold cranking amps (CCA). This is the current a battery can deliver to turn a cold engine. Several wheel loaders in our catalogue list their batteries by CCA (2 × 12V, 1,400 CCA), and a higher CCA costs more.
• Maintenance-free or flooded. A maintenance-free battery needs no topping up with distilled water, which suits a machine on a remote site. A flooded battery is cheaper but needs checking.
• Exchange offer. Most sellers take the old battery back and knock something off the price. Ask for the price with and without exchange before comparing two quotes.

Which battery does my machine need?

Match four things to the battery already fitted, or to the operator manual: the voltage, the Ah rating, the terminal layout (which side the positive post sits on) and the case size, so the battery fits the tray and the clamp holds it.

When does a machine battery need replacing?

The warranty gives a rough idea of how long a battery is built to last, from 24 to 42 months on the batteries above. Replace it sooner if you see these signs:

• The engine turns over slowly, especially in the first start of the morning.
• The battery needs a jump start more than once in a few days, even after a full day of work.
• The case is swollen or cracked, or acid is leaking around the terminals.
• Heavy white or green corrosion keeps coming back on the terminals after cleaning.
• The battery has been fully flat more than once. Each deep discharge shortens its life.

How do you make a machine battery last longer?

• Switch off the battery isolator when the machine stands for days. Small loads such as a GPS tracker drain a battery that is not being charged.
• Keep the terminals clean and tight, and the clamp holding the battery firm. Vibration on a working machine breaks plates inside a loose battery.
• Do not crank the engine for long spells. Crank for a few seconds, then wait before trying again.
• Fix a weak alternator or a slipping belt quickly. A battery that is never fully charged wears out early.
