NHAI has put the biggest road package of the week on the table: ₹2,553.84 crore to widen 42 km of NH-53 east of Nagpur to six lanes on BOT Toll, and the Nagpur Wainganga tender closes at 11:00 AM on 26 November 2026.
Forty two kilometres from Nagpur to the Wainganga
The work covers the Nagpur to Wainganga section of NH-53 from Km 541.800 to Km 499.800, a length of 42.00 km in Maharashtra, widened from four lanes to six under the NH(O) programme. PIU Nagpur 1 is running it, reference MHDIV-21017 /5/2026-PIU Nagpur 1, and the portal gives 912 days for construction.
NH-53 is the Nagpur arm of the Surat to Kolkata corridor and carries heavy freight both ways. Chainage runs backwards here, from 541.800 down to 499.800, which is normal on NHAI stretches numbered from the other end.
BOT Toll changes who can realistically bid
On BOT Toll the concessionaire builds the road with its own money and recovers it from user fee over the concession period. That means equity, a lender and a traffic study, not just construction capacity. The tender fee is ₹2,60,000 and the EMD is ₹25,54,00,000, with no exemption allowed. Bids open at 11:30 AM on 27 November 2026.
Widening beside live traffic means the fleet works in long thin strips with diversions every few kilometres. Budget for excavators on drain and shoulder work, wheel loaders feeding the crusher and hot-mix plant, motor graders and compactors on the layers, and transit mixers with a crane at every structure. Over 912 days a hire contract here is steady income for fleet owners around Nagpur, Bhandara and Umred. If you are sizing a fleet, the road construction equipment notes help.
