Eimco Elecon has put an Indian-built diaphragm wall grab on the market. The Vallabh Vidyanagar company told the exchanges on 27 October that it has launched the DW-220 Hydraulic Diaphragm Wall Grab for the domestic market, aimed at metro station boxes, deep basements and cut-and-cover tunnels. For foundation sub-contractors pricing underground work, that adds a local option in a machine class where the familiar names are foreign.
The quick facts
- Machine: DW-220 Hydraulic Diaphragm Wall Grab, launched 27 October 2026 for the domestic market, per Eimco Elecon’s Regulation 30 filing.
- Reach: excavation depth up to 32 m; bucket widths of 500, 600, 800 and 1,000 mm; bucket capacity 0.8 to 1.3 cubic metres (company-stated).
- Power: 120 t grab closing force, 320-bar hydraulics and an Isuzu diesel engine on a crawler undercarriage (company-stated).
- Not disclosed: price, orders, and any sales or revenue estimate.
What did Eimco Elecon launch?
The BSE listing, timed 13:57 IST on 27 October, is titled “Intimation For Launch Of New Product – DW-220 Hydraulic Diaphragm Wall Grab”. Business Upturn reproduced the filing’s specification list, which also names a square telescopic Kelly bar, a parallelogram structure with cylinders to hold the mast vertical, an automatic hose reel, and ConSite telematics for location, fuel and machine-health alerts. The company framed the launch under Make in India.
Who should look at the DW-220?
A diaphragm wall grab is a narrow buy. Its owners are foundation specialists who cut the concrete walls that hold back soil around underground station boxes and deep basements, usually as sub-contractors to the main civil contractor. So read the spec sheet against the walls those firms are asked to build.
Width first. Buckets run from 500 mm to 1,000 mm, so the DW-220 covers walls up to 1 m thick. A tender that calls for a thicker wall needs a different grab. Depth next. The 32 m rating has to cover the full wall, including the toe that runs below the final excavation level, so it is the depth figure, more than the 120 t closing force, that decides which station boxes this machine can bid for.
The Kelly-bar design is the other trade-off. A Kelly-guided grab holds the trench vertical well, which matters when walls must meet tight tolerances beside existing buildings, but the bar’s length caps its reach. Rope-suspended grabs go deeper. Firms quoting very deep boxes will still look past this class.
Bauer, Casagrande, Soilmec, SANY and XCMG all sell diaphragm wall grabs. A domestic maker changes the parts and service picture more than the purchase price, and Eimco Elecon has published no price, so no one can compare landed cost yet. A local service line matters most when a grab breaks down mid-panel with a concrete pour already booked.
Our take: the clearest early buyers are contractors with a run of metro station boxes in one city, where a grab can move from box to box without long low-bed trips. Single-job users will still find hire cheaper. Eimco Elecon is better known for underground mining machines, so its first references on live metro walls will matter to cautious buyers.
What to watch
- A published price or first order disclosure from Eimco Elecon.
- A full datasheet with operating weight and transport dimensions, which set low-bed and permit costs.
- Underground metro and deep-basement packages reaching award, where diaphragm wall sub-contracts follow.

A hydraulic diaphragm wall grab launched on 27 October 2026 for the Indian market. It digs narrow, deep trenches that are filled with reinforced concrete to form underground retaining walls.
How deep and how wide can the DW-220 dig?
Up to 32 m deep, with bucket widths of 500, 600, 800 and 1,000 mm, according to the company’s filing.
What does the DW-220 cost?
Eimco Elecon has not disclosed a price. Ask the company or its dealers for a quote and a delivery date before planning around it.
