Rs 940 a day, plus dearness allowance, is the basic wage Kerala’s minimum wage order fixes for a “Crusher Operator”, the highest official crusher operator salary floor we could verify. Himachal Pradesh pays the job Rs 493 a day or Rs 14,790 a month from 1 April 2025, Tamil Nadu’s 2025-26 rate book prices a “Stone & Crusher Operator” at Rs 796 a day (about Rs 20,700 a month at 26 days), and Chhattisgarh’s labour rates put the crusher operator at Rs 456 a day. These are legal floors and government estimating rates. No official source publishes what private crusher plants actually pay.

Ask ten quarry owners what they pay the man at the crusher and you will get ten numbers, none of them written down. The state wage orders are different. A handful of them name the job, and they give an operator a floor to measure an offer against and an owner a figure to budget from.

This piece sets out those floors, the grades from helper to plant in-charge, and what the crew costs per tonne. How the plant itself runs, from feeder to screen, is covered in the guide to the crushing and screening plant.

Crusher operator salary floors in the state wage orders

Most minimum wage orders group workers into skill bands and never mention a crusher. Three states that do:

State and order Job as listed Minimum wage
Kerala, construction and stone crushing order (G.O.(P) 71/2019, gazetted 20 Aug 2019) Crusher Operator Rs 940 a day basic, plus DA
Kerala, same order Jack Hammer Operator Rs 890 a day basic, plus DA
Himachal Pradesh, roads, buildings, stone breaking and crushing (from 1 Apr 2025) Crasher Driver [sic], Crushing Plant Fitter (skilled) Rs 493 a day, Rs 14,790 a month
Himachal Pradesh, hydro power projects (from 1 Apr 2025) Crushing Operator (skilled) Rs 493 a day, Rs 14,790 a month
Telangana, stone breaking and stone crushing (1 Apr to 30 Sep 2026) Operator of Crusher Rs 191 a day basic, plus VDA

Kerala’s figure is the basic wage for an eight-hour day. The order adds Re 1 a day for every point the district consumer price index stands above 300, and builds a monthly wage by multiplying basic plus allowance by 26. The district index was not part of what we checked, so the total is not given here. The 2019 order is still the newest stone crushing entry on the Kerala labour commissionerate’s list.

Himachal’s figures come from the Himachal Pradesh labour department’s notification of 24 June 2025. The same schedule lists the stone breaker as unskilled, at Rs 425 a day or Rs 12,750 a month. On an under-construction hydro project in a non-tribal area it adds 25 per cent, which takes the skilled day rate to Rs 616.

Telangana publishes a variable dearness allowance at Rs 0.23 a day per index point, and 1,470 points for April to September 2026. On our reading that adds about Rs 338, for a total near Rs 529 a day. The department’s own table prints a monthly allowance figure against this daily line, though, so confirm the payable rate with the labour office.

Karnataka’s 2026-27 construction schedule names a “Driver, Stone Crusher”, but the state also issued a single minimum wage notification effective 22 May 2026, so confirm which rate applies to your plant. For Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jharkhand we could not verify an order that names the job. There, the nearest skill band in the state’s schedule sets the floor.

What the state rate books pay

Public works departments publish schedules of rates so their engineers can estimate a job. Two of them price the crusher operator by name:

Schedule Job as listed Day rate Per month
Tamil Nadu SOR 2025-26 (from 22 Jul 2025) Stone & Crusher Operator (skilled) Rs 796 about Rs 20,700 at 26 days
Chhattisgarh WRD SOR 2025 Operator Crusher / Conveyor / Mucker (skilled) Rs 456 Rs 11,858
Chhattisgarh WRD SOR 2025 Helper Crusher / Conveyor / Mucker (semi-skilled) Rs 426 Rs 11,078

Tamil Nadu’s rate is what a government estimate allows for a day of that worker’s labour, not a wage anyone has promised. In the same book a heavy-duty driver is Rs 965 a day and a Category-II mazdoor Rs 628. Chhattisgarh’s schedule reproduces the Labour Commissioner’s order of 25 September 2024 and does not say from when it applies. The state revises its allowance, so the current figure may be higher.

Stationary plant or mobile crusher: does the pay differ?

Not in any official document. No wage order or rate book we found separates a jaw-and-cone stationary plant from a track-mounted mobile crusher. Himachal’s hydro schedule puts the crushing operator in the same skilled band as the excavator, loader and dozer operator, which matters on a mobile set-up where one person often feeds the crusher with an excavator and then runs the crusher too.

Market pay for either is not published. The nearest reference is our guide to heavy equipment operator salary in India, which puts wheel loader operators at Rs 16,000 to 32,000 a month (indicative, as of July 2026). A mobile crusher that moves between sites may also bring travel, food or lodging, at the employer’s discretion.

What the job covers

The Mineral Processing Operator qualification on the National Qualifications Register, an NSQF Level 4 file from the Skill Council for Mining Sector approved in May 2025, is the closest official description of the job. Its three core modules are pre-operation checks of the crusher and site, operating conveyors and feeders, and operating and maintaining the crusher.

In plain terms, a shift looks like this:

  • Before start-up, check that the magnets work and that grizzly rails, chutes and guardrails are sound.
  • Control the feed. The file names feed rate, tilt and jams as the things to watch.
  • Set and check the crusher setting so the product sizes match what the plant is selling, and watch the liners for wear.
  • Find and clear faults in the crusher and conveyors, and act in an emergency.
  • Record each shift’s production in the logsheet.

The course runs 420 hours and asks for 12th pass, or 10th pass with three years in mining, and a minimum age of 20. The certificate does not fix pay, but it is a record an employer can check.

From helper to plant in-charge

The wage orders also show the ladder. Himachal’s hydro schedule is the most complete:

Grade in the HP hydro schedule Plant jobs listed include Per month (Rs)
Unskilled Helper to plant operator 12,750
Semi-skilled Junior plant operator 13,560
Skilled Crushing operator, plant operator, camp in-charge 14,790
Highly skilled Senior plant operator 17,640

Telangana’s schedule has the same steps at a crushing unit: a mazdoor working at the crushing machine on Rs 129 a day basic, a helper under the crusher operator on Rs 167, and the operator on Rs 191, each plus the allowance.

Above that sits the plant in-charge or plant manager, who runs production, maintenance and despatch. No wage order names that post and no official source publishes its pay. The step that pays most in the official tables is from operator to senior operator, worth Rs 2,850 a month in Himachal. The same grading applies on a concrete plant, as set out in batching plant operator salary.

What a crusher owner should budget for operator wages

Take a one-shift crew at the Himachal floors: one crusher operator and one plant fitter at Rs 14,790 a month each, plus two unskilled hands at Rs 12,750. That is Rs 55,080 a month before the employer’s PF and ESI share, which is explained in PF and ESI for construction workers. A second shift doubles it.

Now set it against output. The worked example in stone crusher business profit has a 100-tonne-an-hour plant despatching 14,000 tonnes a month. On our arithmetic, that crew costs under Rs 4 a tonne at the legal floor. Even at twice the floor, the wage is a small line next to royalty, power and haulage.

What costs more is a poor operator. A feeder that runs unevenly, a setting that drifts and makes sizes nobody buys, or a jam that stops the belt for an hour all hit despatch, the line that decides profit. Paying above the floor to keep a steady operator is usually the cheaper choice. If you are setting up or expanding a plant, equipment finance options cover the loaders and excavators that feed it, and the wider crusher guide walks through the machines.

A checklist before you hire, or take the job

  • Find your state’s current order for stone breaking and stone crushing, or for construction if crushing is not listed, and check which grade the job sits in.
  • Add the dearness allowance where the order pays one. A basic figure alone understates the floor.
  • Check for an uplift: hydro projects and tribal areas in Himachal add 25 per cent.
  • Agree the shift length, overtime rate and any night or site allowance in writing.
  • Count PF and ESI on top of the wage when you budget.
  • Ask whether the operator also runs the feeding loader or excavator, and pay for both skills if so.

Plant owners and contractors looking for aggregate supply and road work can track live infrastructure tenders and opportunities.
