West Bengal PWD’s Project Implementation Unit-I has four road widening and strengthening jobs in Bankura district worth ₹227.75 crore together, two closing on 21 September and two on 23 September 2026.
Four roads from one unit
All four notices come from the Superintending Engineer and Project Director, PIU-I, under the P.W. (Roads) Directorate, in one NIT series (NIT-15, 17, 19 and 20 of 2026-2027). They are listed together because a Bankura road contractor will want to price them side by side, and because the two batches share dates.
The first batch, published on 27 August and closing on 21 September:
Gangajalghati to Saltora road, 0.00 km to 22.00 km, Bankura Highway Division: widening and strengthening with 15 cross drainage structures and allied work, ₹66.54 crore.
Bikrampur Jamboni road (VR), 0.00 to 12.20 km, Bishnupur Division: widening and strengthening with replacement of 12 cross drainage structures, 190 m of boulder sausage and 315 m of PCC drain, under RIDF-XXXII, ₹27.03 crore.
The second batch, published on 31 August and closing on 23 September:
Bishnupur to Kotulpur road, 18.00 km to 36.00 km, Bishnupur Division: carriageway widened from 7.00 m to 10.00 m and strengthened, with 20 cross drainage structures, 890 m of protective work and 1,970 m of drainage, ₹86.66 crore.
Bansa-II road (SH-4), 0.00 km to 14.08 km, Bankura Division: carriageway widened from 5.50 m to 7.00 m and strengthened, with 8 cross drainage structures, 3,230 m of protective work and 235 m of drainage, ₹47.52 crore.
Boulder sausage is stone packed in wire mesh, laid as erosion protection along a bank or embankment.
Who should bid for the Bankura road widening tender
District road contractors in south-west Bengal are the natural bidders. The smaller roads suit a firm doing its first job above ₹25 crore, while Bishnupur to Kotulpur is a proper highway widening that needs more plant and cash flow. Earnest money is exactly 2 per cent of each estimate, with exemption allowed, and there is no tender fee. All four are percentage-rate contracts with two covers and a 120-day bid validity. A corrigendum has been issued on the Bishnupur to Kotulpur notice, so read it before you price that one.
Machines for road widening
Widening means cutting and building the new width, then strengthening the whole carriageway. A motor grader and an excavator handle the widening cut, tippers feed granular sub-base and base, and a vibratory roller compacts each layer. Culverts and drains need a backhoe loader, a concrete mixer and a small crane for precast pipes or slabs, and the protective work adds boulder handling. Bituminous work at the end brings in a paver and tandem roller, which smaller firms usually hire.
