Delhi Jal Board wants a rising main laid from the Ring Road pumping station to Okhla STP across the Yamuna flood plain for ₹140.04 crore, and the Okhla rising main tender closes at 3:00 PM on 2 November 2026.
A pipeline with a difficult alignment
The work is providing and laying a rising main from the Ring Road pumping station to Okhla sewage treatment plant, taken through the Yamuna flood plain alignment. It sits under NIT No. 19(2026-27) from the Executive Engineer (C) Plant, Delhi Jal Board, with a work period of 540 days.
The flood plain routing is the whole story of this job. The ground is soft and saturated, the water table is close to the surface, and the alignment is subject to the river rising in the monsoon. Dewatering, shoring and a realistic shutdown window during high water have to be in the programme, not added later.
A trivial fee and a real deposit
The tender fee is ₹1,500, which is as close to free as these notices get. The deposit does the filtering: ₹1,50,05,000 against an estimate of ₹1,40,04,47,033, a little over 1 per cent, with no exemption. The notice went up on 16 October and bids open at 3:30 PM on the closing day itself.
Laying a large diameter main through saturated alluvium is slow, careful work. Long reach excavators do the trench while pumps run continuously, and shoring goes in as the trench opens rather than after. Backhoe loaders handle bedding material, haunching and backfill behind the laying gang. Pipe sections, valves and the chamber units are placed with a crane that has firm standing, which on a flood plain usually means building a working platform first. Thrust blocks and chambers need transit mixers, and a compactor follows for reinstatement. Machines on tracks earn their keep here in a way wheeled plant does not.
