Two packages are open to repair the river banks wrecked by the August 2025 flash flood near Harshil and Dharali in Uttarkashi, together worth Rs 115.11 crore, and the Uttarkashi flood protection tender closes at 4:00 PM on 5 November 2026.
Repairing what the 2025 flood took out
The first package covers flood protection of damaged portions on the left banks of the Tel Gaad and the river Bhagirathi near Harshil village, block Bhatwari, reach 0.00 to 460 metres on the left hand side, at Rs 60,22,38,737. The second covers both banks of the Kheer Gaad at Dharali village and the left bank of the Bhagirathi there, reach 0 to 350 metres, at Rs 54,88,95,088. Both come from the Superintending Engineer and nodal officer under the Uttarakhand irrigation department, reference 06/SE/2026-27 dated 16 October 2026.
Both are item rate contracts with 730 days. The damage dates from the flash flood of 5 August 2025, so these are protection works on an active river course rather than new construction.
Deposits, fees and the short working season
Deposits are Rs 96,06,000 and Rs 89,77,000 with a Rs 5,900 fee on each, and both open at 5:00 PM on the day they close. The bigger constraint is the calendar: at Harshil and Dharali the river is in spate through the monsoon and the site is snowbound in deep winter, which leaves a narrow window for work in the channel each year. Two seasons is what 730 days really means here.
Bank protection means gabions, crates, boulder pitching and toe walls. Excavators do nearly all of it, placing boulders and dressing the slope, and a rock breaker attachment earns its keep on the toe excavation. Wheel loaders handle boulder and aggregate stockpiles, and a pick and carry crane sets precast units. Concrete for walls comes from site mixers because transit mixers cannot be relied on this far up the valley. Machines working at this altitude need cold start kits and spare hoses on site.
