A second major bridge over the Teesta at Sevoke on NH-10 has gone out to tender at ₹844.01 crore, with bids closing 1 October 2026.

The crossing and why a second bridge

The National Highways Authority of India has invited EPC bids for an additional major bridge and its approaches across the river Teesta at Sevoke, starting around km 591.310 of NH-10 (old NH-31) in Darjeeling district, West Bengal. The estimate is ₹844.01 crore under reference WBDIV-20017/41/2025-PIU Jalpaiguri/E-288817, procured under NH(O).

Sevoke is the throat of the corridor that carries traffic from the plains towards Kalimpong, Gangtok and the wider northeast. The existing crossing there has long been a single point of failure, and NH-10 itself is repeatedly cut by slides and river action along the Teesta valley. A parallel structure is a redundancy project as much as a capacity one.

EMD is ₹8,44,00,000, exactly one per cent of the estimate. Tender fee is ₹90,000, payable offline. The bid runs across two covers with 120 days of validity, and withdrawal is allowed. Bids were invited on 14 August 2026 and open on 5 October 2026.

Reading the bidder list before you price

Note the address field on the portal. The listing carries an NHAI head office location in Delhi because that is where the bid is received and opened, while the work itself sits in Darjeeling district. Anyone filtering opportunities by state should not let that shift the job out of West Bengal.

This is a large-span river bridge in a hill approach setting, so the credible bidders are national EPC contractors with river bridge substructure experience rather than general road firms. Well foundations or large-diameter piles in a braided Himalayan river, high flood velocities and a monsoon shutdown window are the things that separate a workable rate from an optimistic one.
