Wadi Secunderabad Quadrupling Tender: Sulehali West to Kurugunta, Karnataka

South Central Railway has invited bids worth ₹1,122.78 crore to lay the new 3rd and 4th lines between Sulehali West and Kurugunta in Karnataka, with bidding open until 12 November 2026.

The package sits inside the larger Wadi–Secunderabad quadrupling project. It is an EPC contract, so the winning firm carries design along with construction, and it bundles the electrification and the signalling and telecommunication work with the track laying.

Where the work runs

The section runs between Sulehali West and Kurugunta station (KQT), entirely in Karnataka. The tender documents released with the notice give a good picture of the ground: tentative engineering scale plans for Sulehali West, Sulehali, Chittapur, Malkhaid Road, Sedam and Kurugunta, plus completion drawings for more than thirty bridges numbered from 8 through 40. That bridge count is the clearest signal of what this contract really is. A quadrupling job on an existing alignment means building alongside a running railway, and every one of those structures has to be widened or duplicated without stopping traffic.

Who should bid

This is a heavy-civil railway EPC at a scale that suits an established contractor with quadrupling or doubling credentials and the balance sheet to carry a ₹22.46 crore bid security. With a 12 November deadline, there is more preparation time than most railway packages allow, which usually widens the field.

For machine owners in the Kalaburagi and Yadgir belt, the opening is different. Track doubling and quadrupling work is hungry for hired plant across a long programme, and the section passes through a stretch where several road and rail contracts already run.

Machines the contract will absorb

New line formation between existing tracks means excavators working in tight corridors, tippers running blanketing material, and vibratory soil compactors and motor graders finishing the formation. The bridge programme brings batching plants, transit mixers, concrete pumps and cranes for girder placement. Because the work runs beside live tracks, expect a preference for compact and short-tail machines that can operate inside a restricted right of way.
