Nearly seventeen kilometres of the Old AT Road in Tinsukia are being finished under Assam’s state road programme, and the ₹33.02 crore Asom Mala tender closes at 2:00 PM on 3 November 2026.
Laipuli to the Makum rail overbridge
The Public Works Roads Department of Assam is the inviting authority, reference CE/DEV/ASOM MALA 3.0/14/25-26/15. The work is the balance improvement and upgradation of the Old AT Road, the former NH-37, starting at Ch. 636.80 km at Laipuli and ending at Ch. 653.50 km at the Makum ROB, under Asom Mala 3.0 for 2025-26. That is 16.7 km, on an item rate contract with 540 days.
Asom Mala is the state’s own road programme, running alongside the national highway network. This stretch carries oil-field and tea-garden traffic through a built-up corridor, which is why it was split off as balance work rather than left to the original package.
Exemption allowed, which opens the field
The estimate is ₹33,01,57,000. The EMD is ₹66,03,000, which is 2 per cent, and the portal records that exemption is allowed. The tender fee is ₹20,000 and bids open at 2:30 PM on 3 November 2026, half an hour after closing.
Tinsukia gets a long, heavy wet season, so the realistic earthwork and paving window is short. The fleet is standard for a 17 km upgrade, excavators on drains and widening, a motor grader and compactors on the layers, backhoe loaders at culverts, and mixers for cross drainage. What changes here is sequencing: get side drains and cross drainage in first, because a road through this belt without working drainage will not hold a bituminous surface for one monsoon. The road construction equipment notes cover the layer order.
