Rock Breaker Price in India: Backhoe (JCB) and Excavator Breakers by Size

A new rock breaker for a backhoe loader costs about ₹1.2 lakh to ₹3 lakh in India, with a few heavier models up to about ₹4.9 lakh, and the same breaker class suits backhoes of every make. A breaker for a 20 to 30-ton excavator runs about ₹5 lakh to ₹17.5 lakh, and a small breaker for a mini excavator about ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh. These are new-breaker seller listings we checked on IndiaMART and TradeIndia on 29 September 2026.

Most people call a backhoe loader a JCB and ask for a “JCB breaker”, but a breaker is matched to the machine’s weight and hydraulics, not its badge. This page is about the price of the breaker itself, the hammer that bolts on in place of the bucket. What does a rock breaker cost for each machine size?

A breaker is chosen by the weight of the machine that carries it, so the price is best read by machine size. Used, rebuilt and obviously mislabelled listings were left out.

Ask every seller whether the price includes the mounting bracket, the hoses and a first chisel. Two quotes for the “same” breaker often differ because one includes them and the other does not.

How much does a breaker for a backhoe loader cost?

Most new breakers listed for backhoe loaders cost about ₹1.2 lakh to ₹3 lakh. The cheaper end, around ₹1.2 lakh to ₹1.8 lakh, is mostly smaller breakers of the kind known in the trade by names like SB40 and SB43. Breakers sold as a direct fit for the JCB 3DX were listed at ₹2.5 lakh and ₹3 lakh, and a few heavier breakers for 6 to 9-ton backhoes at ₹4.7 lakh to ₹4.9 lakh.

Why can one price range cover every make? Because full-size backhoe loaders in India are built to almost the same size. All but one of the 51 models in our catalogue weigh 7.2 to 9.7 tonnes, and every one publishes its hydraulic pump flow.

The exception is the compact JCB 2DX at 5,220 kg and 70.4 L/min, which needs a lighter breaker than a full-size backhoe. The breaker maker’s data sheet states the oil flow and pressure each breaker needs; check it against your machine’s figure before you buy.

On top of the breaker, a backhoe needs a hydraulic line to run it. Many backhoes of every make are sold with this “breaker line” as an option; if yours does not have one, it has to be fitted before the breaker will work, so ask for that cost in the same quote. The bracket also has to suit your machine’s dipper, which is where one make differs from another.

Why do breakers for the same machine differ so much in price?

• Maker and origin. Imported Korean and European breakers sit at the top of each range; Indian-made and imported budget breakers sit at the bottom.
• Impact energy. A breaker that hits harder breaks rock faster and costs more. For the same carrier, compare the impact energy and blows per minute on the data sheet, not just the weight.
• Box type or open type. A box-type (silenced) breaker has an outer housing that cuts noise and protects the body, which matters in towns and costs more than an open, top-type breaker.
• What is included. Bracket, hoses, first chisel, installation and a seal kit can each be in or out of the price.
• Warranty and service. A breaker is a wear item. A seller who stocks seal kits and chisels near your site is worth part of the price difference.

Breaker makers selling in India include Soosan, Everdigm, Epiroc, JCB and Indian manufacturers such as Dozco, which builds rock breakers for 0.5 to 36-ton excavators at its plant in Visakhapatnam. Indian seller listings also show breakers from ACE, Force and Vajra.

Which breaker size fits my machine?

The breaker has to match the machine’s operating weight and its hydraulic flow and pressure. Too small a breaker for the machine wears out fast; too big a breaker strains the machine’s arm and hydraulics. Excavators are sold in India by Tata Hitachi, Komatsu, Hyundai, Caterpillar, SANY, Volvo, Kobelco, JCB and others, and a 20-tonne machine from any of them sits in the same breaker class. What else does a breaker cost to run?

• Chisels wear out and are replaced several times over a breaker’s life. The rock breaker chisels guide covers the types and when to change them.
• Seal kits are replaced when the breaker starts to leak oil or lose power.
• The chisel needs regular greasing while working. Breaker makers’ manuals typically ask for grease at the chisel every two to three hours of breaking. The greasing guide explains grease grades and intervals.
• Breaking is hard on the machine’s pins and hydraulic hoses, so check them more often on a machine that runs a breaker every day.

How do you make a breaker last longer?

• Do not “blank fire”, which means running the breaker when the chisel is not pressed against the rock. The energy goes into the breaker itself.
• Do not use the chisel as a lever to pry rock loose. That bends chisels and cracks bushes.
• Keep the chisel square to the work and move to a new spot if the rock has not cracked after a short burst.
• Keep the hydraulic oil clean and at the right temperature. Hot, dirty oil shortens seal life in both the breaker and the machine.
